Useful handicapper for Richard Fahey and held her own in Listed races on AW towards the end of last year; below par on reappearance run at the Curragh late last month but still capable of running well.

Career best when winning a Listed race at Killarney but failed to progress in a Group 2 at the Curragh in September; last of four on reappearance run at same track but not beaten too far and had excuses; could go well.

Promise in two maidens prior to winning a maiden at Leopardstown and bolted up when dominating from the front in a Listed race at Naas in October; may have needed recent run at the Curragh and should progress.

Won a 29-runner maiden at the Curragh (7f) on debut; a shade disappointing in her next three runs and something to prove at present.

Off the mark at the third time of asking when taking a maiden over 6f at Limerick on good ground before a dismal effort at Listed level in a Naas 5½f contest last month; last seen down the field at Fairyhouse; quick reappearance main positive.

Finished to good effect when narrowly winning 7f Gowran Park maiden on seasonal bow in June and showed more promise when third at the Curragh in fillies handicap; going in the right direction.

Highly tried last season in six runs before grabbing a Curragh maiden (6f, soft to heavy; 8-11fav) in October. Disappointed in four subsequent starts and has something to prove at this level, albeit dangerous to discount.

Daughter of Cable Bay won a Fairyhouse maiden in September on fourth start and also finished 6L second behind Tango in a Listed race at the Curragh (6f, soft to heavy). Overall profile suggests plenty to find with some of these rivals.

Remains a maiden but boasts strong credentials; third in Irish 1,000 Guineas on reappearance and fourth since in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot; needs to bounce back from below par run last time in Group 3 at Leopardstown.

Off the mark in maiden company at the seventh time of asking for connections at Naas last month over 7f. Well held previously at Group 1 level at the Curragh in the Irish 1000 Guineas.

Ran well when finishing 2L fourth in a 7f Group 3 event on good-to-firm ground at Leopardstown last month and not inconvenienced by drop back in trip last time at Naas; interesting contender.

Valeria Messalina29

Won a Naas maiden on debut and only beaten a neck when runner-up in a Newmarket Group 3 on penultimate start; led for a long way in Irish 1000 Guineas and this step back in trip may help.

Verdict

SO WONDERFUL let down her supporters last time at Leopardstown when she attempted to make all under Seamie Heffernan. If reverting to the hold up tactics that served her so well in her two Group 1 outings then perhaps she will have a better chance of finally breaking her maiden tag. Soul Search had showed she had a bit of class when running a creditable race in the Irish 1000 Guineas and when not getting the run of the race last time in a Group 3 contest. There may be more to come from her. Of the older contestants, the mare Crotchet may have needed her latest run. Prior to that she had been relatively consistent for Richard Fahey.
