Showed promise on debut at Kempton (7f, AW) last month, before backing that up with a ready win, despite racing keenly, at Lingfield (7f, AW) nine days later. Penalised for that, but should again be very competitive.

Half-brother to both a 5f winner and a 7f winner. Easy to back 28-1 shot on debut, when he ran green but still did well to finish 1½L third at Newmarket (6f, good to firm). Longer trip well worth a try and he should be a contender.
4,500gns yearling; fourth foal; half-brother to Hungarian 1m winner Blush Bird out of an unraced sister to 1m4f Listed winner Rambling Rose. Stable just 3% with 2yos over five seasons.
€58,000 yearling; fifth foal; half-brother to 7f winner Straight Away, out of a 7f winning sister to 7f-1m2f Group 1 winner Rio De La Plata. Eyecatching pedigree, and represents a stable in form. Can probably make a good debut.

30,000gns yearling; fourth foal; half-brother to 7f/1m winner Kind Review, out of a French 1m 2yo winner (inc. Listed). Trainer's string just a little quiet, but probably worth a market check ahead of his debut.
45,000gns yearling; third foal; half-brother to 6f Fibresand 2yo winner Jump The Gun and 7½f AW winner Ricochet, out of a Group-placed 6f 2yo winner. Trainer among the winners and is 10% with her 2yos over five seasons.

€35,000 yearling; third foal; dam placed 7f/1m and half-sister to Group-placed 7f 2yo winner Puggy (dam of French 1,000 Guineas/French Oaks winner Avenir Certain). Nice pedigree. Trainer in-form and is 18% with 2yos over five seasons.
42,000gns yearling; 11th foal; half-brother to five winners, three of them in Listed company, two of those being at around this trip. Dam 7f-1m2f winner (inc. at two). Trainer 4% with 2yos over last five seasons. Market check.
35,000gns foal, 34,000gns yearling; first foal of a 1m3f Fibresand winner, closely related to 1m7½f Group 2 winner Kite Mark. Trainer has a healthy 17% strike rate with his 2yos over five seasons.

Forecasts

New Mandate (11/4), Bobby On The Beat (16/5), Rommel (4/1), Jumby (5/1), Time Interval (14/1), Golden Crusader (14/1), Air To Air (16/1), Huddleton Mac (25/1), Sepah (33/1), Boccherini (50/1), Where You At (50/1), The Bay Warrior (66/1)

Verdict

Notebooks at the ready for this opener which sees some interesting newcomers up against a couple of potentially useful sorts. Of the latter, Rommel clearly has to be taken very seriously after his ready success, but a penalty may open the door for BOBBY ON THE BEAT, who looked to have outperformed expectations on debut, and may be capable of breaking his duck this time. Golden Crusader looks the pick of the debutants on pedigree, while New Mandate, Jumby and Time Interval are others of interest.
