Still seeking his first career success (0-10), albeit ran well over this trip on his penultimate start when third at Newmarket to Inclyne and Involved (a winner since); has recent related form with Sudona.
Ex-Hugo Palmer; runner-up on both starts for David O'Meara, including when no match for the progressive Solo Saxophone (Baryshnikov fifth) at Thirsk (1m4f, good) three weeks ago; highest on the shortlist.
Versatile type (4-29 Flat, 4-23 Hurdles); absent since finishing well down the field in a Class 4 handicap at York (1m2½f, good to firm) almost exactly 12 months ago; thought likely to improve for the run; others preferred.
Game short-head C&D winner (good to firm) last September; slightly below that level of form so far this season - admittedly in Class 4 handicaps; sits on his last winning mark with retained rider Silvestre De Sousa in the saddle.
Winning doesn't come all that naturally to this filly (sole success came over 1m on the Fibresand at Southwell); wasn't ever a threat to the 5L winner Variyann on comeback at Haydock (1m, good to soft); extra yardage helpful.
Easing noticeably in the weights following a barren spell of form - finished last of 12 (50-1) over C&D four weeks ago; visor applied seeking a revival of fortunes.
Without a win since September 2018 (Sandown), but does compete from a reduced handicap mark as a result; didn't find enough (travelled smoothly into contention) when third to Broad Appeal at Windsor (1m2f, good to firm) a fortnight ago.
C&D winner (July 2018); has developed into an AW specialist since then, with a further three wins at Wolverhampton; was in there pitching until the closing stages of the race (fourth) at Beverley (1m2f, good) a fortnight ago; feasibly weighted.
Dual course winner (effective anywhere between 1m2f & 1m4f); finished a never nearer fourth to Indomeno on his most recent attempt in this grade (Class 5) at Haydock last July; stablemate of Aiya, and a noteworthy outsider.
Enjoyed a productive spell of form between June & July 2018 (17120), earning a rise into the low 90's; steadily downhill since, and it remains to be seen what he is capable of producing off a 256-day absence; safer alternatives elsewhere.
Has risen through the ranks (from lowly origins) since breaking her duck for Tristan Davidson at Wolverhampton (1m1½f) last October; still seeking her first win on turf (0-15); beaten 4L when fourth to Highwaygrey over C&D three weeks ago.
In fine fettle on the AW at Newcastle (1m4½f) last September, and still reasonably handicapped on that bare form; did himself no favours whatsoever with a slow start on the Westwood at Beverley (1m2f, good) latest.
Beat the recent Hamilton scorer Sociologist when making a winning start for Ron Thompson at Beverley (1m4f, good) last month; ultra-consistent in defeat since (22); can race prominently, so should cope with dropping back in trip (to 1m2f).
Forecasts
Sudona (6/4), Zlatan (11/2), Aiya (13/2), Baryshnikov (8/1), Michele Strogoff (17/2), Ad Libitum (18/1), Thomas Cranmer (18/1), Vampish (18/1), Little India (20/1), Regal Mirage (25/1), Greengage (33/1), Banksea (66/1), Cornborough (125/1)
David O'Meara continues to knock in a steady stream of winners at venues across the country, and the mare SUDONA can potentially add to that ever burgeoning tally. She was unfortunate to bump into the progressive Solo Saxophone (Ben Haslam) at Thirsk three weeks ago, and on that basis seemingly has the measure of Baryshnikov (fifth). Others worthy of a positive mention include the in-form mare Vampish, the feasibly-weighted AW specialist Michele Strogoff, and the eased-in-grade Regal Mirage.
- Sudona
- Baryshnikov
- Michele Strogoff
