Lope De Vega gelding; made a winning start in a maiden at Redcar (7f, good) 18 days ago; carries a welter burden of 10st 4lb with the addition of an incurred penalty.
Winning hurdler; started at triple-figure odds (250-1) when finishing a remote fourth of seven to Highest Ground at Haydock (1m2½f, good) last month; no conceivable chance.
Shamardal colt; justified market support when making a winning debut in the mud at Doncaster (7f) last back-end; that bare form isn't overly strong, but must enter calculations with Andrea Atzeni in the saddle.
Iffraaj gelding (€25,000 yearling); kept on strongly when springing a 40-1 surprise at Haydock (7f, good) last month - the placed horses have acquitted themselves respectably since; probable player.
Brazen Beau colt; has shown early pace, but worryingly has weakened quickly on both starts to date; far safer to look elsewhere.
£30,000 yearling; slowly away, and far too green to do himself justice (finished a detached last) on debut at Ripon (1m, good to soft) last month.
€25,000 yearling; finished in the ruck (sixth) behind the deeply impressive Tilsit at Newcastle (1m) last weekend; the type to do better with further experience; isn't the solution here.
200,000gns yearling; half-brother to the versatile French winner Jackson En Bois (5f-1m5f); was very easy to back (33-1) on debut at Newmarket (1m, good) last month; this race looks to be a more suitable objective.
Makfi colt; €62,000 yearling; fifth living foal from the French Listed-placed winner Liberty Chery; a noteworthy newcomer in the King Power Racing Co Ltd silks.
£18,000 yearling; second foal from the 1m½f winner Ice Mayden; will need to be above-average in order to be competitive on his racecourse debut; others more obvious.
£65,000 yearling; fourth foal from an unraced dam; brother to the useful top-level handicapper Mojito (7f-1m); merits basic market scrutiny on debut in the Ontoawinner silks.
Fractious in the stalls, and ultimately well beaten on debut at Haydock (7f, good) last month; is considered a most unlikely candidate on that basis.
Speightstown filly who cost a whopping $500,000 as a foal (dam a winning sister to the Irish 2000 Guineas/Breeders Cup Turf winner Magician; made an inauspicious start (5-1) on the AW at Lingfield (7f) 17-days ago.
Back-marker on both starts to date (split over a period of ten months or so); similar scenario anticipated; is very easily dismissed.
Forecasts
Confide (11/8), Magnetised (6/4), Rogue Assassin (13/2), Ilaraab (9/1), Khayyaal (11/1), Lucas (33/1), Liberty Power (40/1), Purple Knight (66/1), Rukwa (80/1), Twisted Dreams (100/1), Gunnerside (100/1), Artillery (100/1), Greyfire (100/1), Requinto's Rose (250/1)
The first division of a 1m novice, which features three previous winners in the shape of Confide, Magnetised and Rogue Assassin. It's perfectly feasible that any of that trio could prove capable of defying their respective penalties, but greater value could lurk elsewhere. Liberty Power (Tim Easterby) and Purple Knight (Karl Burke) are noteworthy newcomers in relatively high-profile racing silks, while the well-bred Khayyaal cost a mint ($500,000) as a foal. However, in the interests of sport, a chance is taken on the William Haggas-trained ILARAAB who was set an ambitious enough objective on debut at Newmarket four weeks ago.
- Ilaraab
- Magnetised
- Liberty Power
