Debut C&D winner as a 2yo on soft ground, then highly tried in Group 2/Listed company for the rest of his juvenile career at up 1m. Well beaten on handicap debut at Ascot (Britannia, 1m, good/soft) on 3yo return, has a bit to prove off this mark.

Useful 2yo but hardly unexposed, already had 10 runs with both wins coming over 7f on quick ground, the second a handicap off a 9lb lower mark. Ended the season in decent fashion with two placed efforts, looks vulnerable off this mark to improvers.

Won a minor AW (Kempton) 7f event as a 2yo (second start), before finding life too tough in further two races (one a C&D Group 3). Gelded for his return, shaped with promise in Britannia Handicap (1m, good/soft), too keen, yet to reveal true ability.

Only filly in the field, won a fillies' novice (6f, good) at Salisbury after two sound efforts in defeat. Ran well in defeat on return in 6f Leicester handicap (still not the finished article), open to improvement, ought to enjoy second try at 7f.

One of the most exposed in the field both his 2yo wins (6f/7f) came on the AW (minor events), after which he failed at Listed/Group level. Form in AW handicaps of late is modest (barely stayed 1m last time), hood worn last three starts now removed.

Lightly-raced (three 2yo runs), showed improved form on 3yo debut after eight months off/gelding operation to win at Chepstow (8.1f, good). Made all (travelled strongly), won in convincing fashion (form untested), in good hands for handicap debut.

1-8 as a 2yo, sole win coming in a Hamilton maiden (6f, firm) second start, shaped well enough in handicaps without progressing markedly. Better than finishing position on return from wind op on AW (7.1f), usually leads, may find this too testing.

Fair 2yo, best run second start at Newmarket (7f, soft), failed to build on that run when last seen (third quick run may have told on him). Handicap debut after a fair absence off a mark that doesn't let him in lightly, others present a firmer case.

Remains a maiden after five 2yo runs, adequate form at up to 7f (tried in hood once on handicap debut). Not at his best when last seen, makes 3yo debut off an absence having been gelded, looks vulnerable returned to handicaps to less-exposed sorts.

Didn't need to improve to break his maiden at the third attempt over 6f (good/soft) at Pontefract last September. Not seen again until recently at Doncaster (7f, good) making handicap debut (weak in betting, needed run), should have more to come.

7f nursery winner (handicap debut) for Richard Hannon over 7f on AW, below-par subsequently. Ran poorly on 3yo/stable debut on AW over this trip in February, not seen since this run may well be needed, looks one of the lesser lights in the field.

What An Angel3

Still no win to show for efforts in nine starts (had some fair form to show for 2yo exploits). Gelded since early 2020 exertions, showed far better form at Bath (1m, good), ran odds-on favourite close, capable of better, still of interest back at 7f.

Forecasts

Eshaasy (9/4), What An Angel (3/1), Star In The Making (9/2), Campari (13/2), Alben Spirit (18/1), Hector Loza (18/1), Indian Creak (20/1), Blue Skyline (20/1), One Hart (33/1), Shared Belief (40/1), Cotai Again (40/1), Cheat (50/1)

Verdict

Richard Hannon took this 3yo handicap in 2018 and teams up again with the rider of that winner – Thore Hammer Hansen in a bid to repeat that triumph this time with What An Angel who stepped up on what he had previously shown at Bath on Thursday, hopefully this won’t come too soon. Eshaasy is one of the less exposed types in the field, he shaped with promise in a tough handicap (Britannia) at Ascot last time; should have more to offer. Campari is the other handicap newcomer he made a winning return at Chepstow after being gelded and it would be a surprise if he didn’t make a bold bid. STAR IN THE MAKING was a useful 2yo and she’s taken to go one better than her Leicester second last time.
