Counts a C&D success among his seven career wins but has been plying his trade over slightly further of late. His course form will always stand him in good stead but he's been off since October and his last two outings were poor efforts.
Enjoyed five wins during 2018 - including a C&D from a 1lb lower mark - but the handicapper was in charge last year and he struggled to hold his own from the revised marks. Now back on a reasonable rating but the long absence has to be a concern.
Seems to have enjoyed being back on the Flat since joining his current yard and arrives here with solid claims after a couple of near misses in June. He's 3lb well in under the terms of the race and looks a serious contender at this level.
Best form has been registered on the AW and has to be a cause for consternation that he's 0-10 on turf so far. Has a bit to find with Competition after their encounter at Lingfield last month and needs the first-time visor to really perk him up.
A modest handicapper that hasn't enjoyed much success under either code of racing of late; was always going to find a mile on the sharp side at Windsor last time out but did show she retains enthusiasm at least. Still makes limited appeal here.
Returned from 594 days on the sidelines with an underwhelming effort at Chepstow last month and it's hard to make a serious case in his favour on the evidence of that run. Others readily preferred.
Hasn't stood much racing over the last few years and this trip looks way short of his optimum; best just watched on his first start since last July.
Still a maiden after 13 previous starts and didn't really show enough to suggest she's capable of exploiting a drop in the ratings when she was brushed aside at Chelmsford last month. Hard to recommend.
Didn't show much in three starts for Richard Hannon and was much the same on debut for her current yard when she finished ninth of 10 at Chelmsford in mid-June. Needs the blinkers to inspire a colossal amount of improvement.
It's been five years since his last victory and he's shown very little in two starts since going under the knife for wind surgery. Would be surprising if he were to bounce back judging by recent evidence.
Hasn't made a favourable impression in any of her three previous starts but possible this longer trip can help in some way. Needs a lot to go her way now she's belatedly stepping into handicap company.
Her form figures make for depressing reading over the last few years and not even the latest switch in stables seems to have revived her enthusiasm. Hard to see her breaking her maiden at the 23rd time of asking.
Forecasts
Competition (4/9), General Brook (4/1), Howardian Hills (9/1), Filament Of Gold (14/1), Boutan (16/1), Sellingallthetime (25/1), Ideal Grace (28/1), Grams And Ounces (40/1), Star Command (40/1), Kay Sera (50/1), Galileo Jade (80/1), River Cafe (125/1)
Credible rivals to COMPETITION are thin on the ground in a very weak finale; a race which looks to there for the taking if the Mick Appleby-trained gelding runs to the form of his last couple of starts. Filament Of Gold goes well here and has the form to figure prominently. However, as is the case with General Brook, he has an absence to overcome, so there might be some value to be had in a speculative forecast play with Howardian Hills as the main danger this time.
- Competition
- Howardian Hills
- Filament Of Gold
