Followed up solid efforts in a Galway bumper and on maiden hurdle debut at Down Royal in December when finishing second of nine runners in a Naas novices' contest when last seen in February. Rates a leading contender.

One from three on the Flat for trainer Andrew Balding, poor on hurdles introduction at Tipperary in early October before an improved effort over 2m in a Punchestown maiden hurdle later the same month. Plenty to prove in this company.
Landed a couple of hunter chases in May last year before two point-to-point victories in January/February this year. No match for the winner on return to action at Limerick last month but can give a good account here.

Off the mark at the fourth time of asking for connections when landing a Punchestown maiden hurdle over 2m in February. Reported to be 'wrong behind' when pulling up at Leopardstown on latest start in March. No surprise to see a bold bid.
Landed a shock at odds of 40/1 in a Limerick 2m6f maiden hurdle last month beating 14 rivals and Mystery Stowaway a neck. More needed in this contest but can go well again.

Winner of one of his six starts over hurdles. Last seen running well to finish fourth of 22 in the Grade 3 Fred Winter at the Cheltenham festival in March at odds of 14/1. Can give a good account if jumping fluently.

Verdict

The progressive gelding RUSSIAN DIAMOND can continue in good form here. The Emmet Mullins-trained six-year-old followed up solid efforts in a Galway bumper and on maiden hurdle debut at Down Royal in December when finishing second of nine runners in a Naas novices' contest when last seen in February. The biggest threat may come in the shape of Recent Revelations, last seen finishing in the frame in the Fred Winter at the Cheltenham festival in March. Rewritetherules for trainer J J Hanlon and the Jessica Harrington-trained Barrington Court should not be underestimated.
  1. Russian Diamond
  2. Recent Revelations
  3. Barrington Court
