Outran SP of 28-1 on handicap debut over C&D last month, finishing fifth of 14 despite being a bit short of room late on. Entitled to be sharper for the return to action/turf bow; his best effort so far.
Showed promise on return to action in a Gowran Park maiden (7f, good to firm) despite big price last month, though poor effort afterwards on h'cap bow at Tipperary (1m1f, good to yielding). Just fourth ride in public for Cathal Gahan.
Well held off in three maidens, including last month's turf bow at Roscommon (1m2f, good to firm); should do better in handicaps with time; tongue-tied in this first foray into the sphere.
Beaten 9L in strong maiden over this C&D last month (80-1) that was won by Saturday's Irish Derby second Tiger Moth. Could be a live contender on handicap bow.
More exposed than a few of these (0-10) and while she was runner-up last time at Tipperary (1m1f, good to yielding); she's now 3lb higher in a stronger contest. Can go well again.
Flattered to deceive in four starts last year, including h'cap bow here (1m, soft to heavy) in October. Up in trip for seasonal return and meets better ground; possible improver.
Now without promise in trio of maidens, filly was well held at Gowran Park (7f, good to firm) last month on return from a break. She goes up in distance for this handicap debut and may do better.
Connections couldn't seem to settle on a trip last year, four starts coming from 5½f-1m; form unconvincing and will have to improve for this longer trip on seasonal return.
Showed little in maidens and similar tale at Tipperary (1m1f, good to yielding) last month on h'cap bow with this 10lb claimer on board. Work to be done but remains early days.
Typically improved on h'cap bow over C&D last time when going up in trip, beaten 1¼L into third of 17; gets to race from the same mark now and can give another good account of herself.
Gelded over the winter and drew market support on h'cap bow at Gowran Park (1m, yielding) last month; beaten over 10L in third of 11 as 3-1f there; needs to find extra for this longer trip but should improve.
All three maiden runs in 2019 came over 7f and the gelding will need a marked step forward on seasonal return/handicap bow to have designs on prize money.
Offered some encouragement on reappearance at Gowran Park (1m, good to firm) last month, finishing fourth; not as good since at Tipperary and needs to improve in first-time cheekpieces up in distance.
Showed very little in six starts last year for Johnny Murtagh and similar tale on debut for this trainer in Roscommon handicap (7f, good to firm) last month. Goes right up in trip now with improvement to find.
Forecasts
Red Kelly (11/8), Shake A Leg (5/1), Waterville Lady (11/2), Relaxing Mode (15/2), Sideshift (12/1), Dark Voyager (16/1), Dashing Diamond (20/1), Ubume (28/1), Sondheim (33/1), Camilla Sina (33/1), Special Memento (33/1), Dawn Over Owning (40/1), Figurehead (100/1), Urban Boom (125/1)
Waterville Lady is more exposed than plenty of these but Jessica Harrington's filly has twice run well since her return this term and, despite going up in the ratings, should be in the mix again. Shake A Leg, Relaxing Mode and Sideshift may all have more to offer but the handicap debutant RED KELLY is much-respected. Johnny Murtagh's charge will have learned plenty from his outing in a ridiculously strong C&D maiden last time and can have a big say on h'cap bow. The Joseph O'Brien pair Ubume and Dawn Over Owning should improve before long.
- Red Kelly
- Waterville Lady
- Relaxing Mode
