Would carry this lot on his old form of 2017 but has only been seen twice since then, showing only moderate form at Newcastle; will enjoy the step back up to 7f though, and is simply too well handicapped to dismiss.
Just three wins in 30 starts is a concern, but he is capable of classy handicap form when on song; shaped encouragingly when fifth at Doncaster last week and ability is clearly still there, so has chances with conditions ideal.
Well handicapped on the best of his form for David O'Meara now, and there was just enough encouragement on first start for new yard at Doncaster to suggest he's something left to offer; this new yard can turn them around, and he's interesting.
Not the easiest to win with but pops up from time to time, and has a pretty good record after a break (4202); first start for new yard after leaving Keith Dalgleish, likely ground and trip fine, and worth a look in the market for support.
Made hay on the Fibresand at Southwell over the winter, winning four on the bounce and going up 20lb in the process; wel below that form on reappearance and not hard to think the handicapper is in charge now.
Often well supported but rarely delivers, and you've got to go back two years to find his last win; yet to win at this trip either and despute a tempting mark these days, he's likely to find a few too good again.
Had a whale of a time of it at Wolverhamptn last autumn/winter, winning four of his five starts, but well below that at Kempton when last seen; this new high mark means he needs to pull more out, and stall 1 possibly not ideal either.
Well backed to score at Beverley two weeks ago and ran on well late to oblige; sharper track and slight drop back in trip ask new questions of him, but comes here in form and despite a 4lb rise, is still well handicapped.
Winner at Newcastle (6f) around this time last year, stays 7f fine and was generally consistent last year; drop of rain would enhance his chances a fair bit, and yard are popping a few winners in; one to be interested in.
Has a couple of wins to his name, and stays much further than this (has won over 10f); wasn't pulling any trees up last year but much better on first run for new yard at Haydock (7f) and might be on the way back; very interesting.
Good record here, twice a winner from four starts and looking nicely handicapped on the best of his form; not seen out since last August though, so possibly had issues, and yard not exactly firing the winners in at present.
No doubting he's very well handicapped if you want to go back far enough, but it's over two years since he last won a race, which is a concern. Yet to win at this trip, and simply looks on the downgrade these days.
On a winning mark and this trip suits him, could be well drawn for a front-runner too, but he doesn't win very often and he has ground to make up with one or two of these on his Haydock reappearance run. Others preferred.
Another that's well handicapped, like a few here, and he came back to form when third to Shady McCoy at Haydock on reappearance; often runs well fresh and doesn't always follow it up though, so no good thing to go on from that.
Forecasts
Zap (4/1), Roundhay Park (11/2), Right Action (6/1), Tangled (7/1), Production (15/2), Kapono (9/1), Proud Archi (12/1), Hajjam (14/1), Gracious John (18/1), Parys Mountain (20/1), Chookie Dunedin (25/1), Northgate Lad (33/1), Suitcase 'n' Taxi (50/1), Glengarry (80/1)
This looks wide open, with any number having some sort of a chance. It might be worth giving HAJJAM a try, as his new yard are proving quite adept at turning others castoffs around and it wasn't an awful first start for them at Doncaster. He should be a working man's price, and is worth a small wager. The worry with Tangled is that he's going to find the line coming too soon, but he's bang in form and should go close if there's a good pace on. Production looked liek he might be on the way back to form on his latest start and can take a hand, and any money around for Kapono needs noting too.
- Hajjam
- Production
- Tangled
