Rock Of Gibraltar filly who cost €1,800 as a yearling.; slowly away and finished last 14 on debut at Dundalk in December; entitled to improve but unlikely to be good enough.

An 85,000 gns yearling, Acclamation filly; failed to build on promising debut at Dundalk in October when eased in the closing stages having lead until halfway at Naas earlier this month; worth another chance for in-form yard.

Raced just the once as a juvenile and put in a pleasing enough debut at Naas over six furlongs; excellent chance if she has wintered well and one for the shortlist.

Brazen Beau filly out of a Stimulation mare. Cost 30,000gns as a foal; was getting the hang of things in the closing stages of debut at Gowran Park earlier this month; fair chance if progressing.

Horse silk

Free Eagle filly out of a Canford Cliffs mare. Cost €10,000 as a foal.; never a factor on only racecourse appearance at the Curragh in September; hard to totally dismiss and market will be guide to stable enthusiasm about her chances.

Fairly well bred but only fetched a cheap price as a yearling; unfancied on recent debut at Leopardstown but ran a much better race than expected to finish fourth over a mile; drop back in trip may suit.

16/1
Dark Angel filly. Dam, winner in France over 1m1½f, well held in Listed and Group 3 company; no show on recent debut run at Gowran Park; encouraging she is turned out so quickly; one to consider in first-time visor.
Cost 58,000gns as a yearling; first foal; dam 1m4f winner, half-sister to 1m Listed winner Brindisi and Listed-placed winner La Spezia; interesting pedigree and interesting to see level of market support on debut.

Filly by Acclamation out of a Iffraaj mare; showed up well for a long way on debut at Cork in October; entitled to have improved for that experience and worthy of closer inspection.

Nicely backed on debut at Naas in November as a juvenile only finding things tough in the closing stages; will be stronger here and looks one the leading contenders.

Baraniya (5/2), Rocket Science (7/2), Abeona (7/2), Laggata (9/2), Do The Twist (8/1), Marionette (16/1), Maud Gonne Spirit (18/1), Fall For A Kiss (40/1), Anjika (50/1), Joan Of Pimlico (66/1), Red Pantz (100/1), Predictability (125/1), Swift Sonnet (150/1), Wish You Well (200/1), Will She Pass (250/1)

Verdict

If ROCKET SCIENCE has wintered well then she has a fair chance of getting off the mark in this interesting maiden contest. The filly was doing her best work in the closing stages of her debut run at Naas on heavy ground over six furlongs in November. She would not have to have improved too much to play a leading role. Laggata belied her odds of 125/1 to run a cracking race at Leopardstown recently. She should appreciate this step back in trip. Although bred to stay much further, newcomer Maud Gonne Spirit deserves respect on her debut and it will be interesting to see the level of market support.

  2. Laggata
  3. Maud Gonne Spirit
