Dual winner over this trip (good to firm on turf) who is 3lb higher than his more recent success on AW. Showed he can be competitive from today's mark in two further winter AW runs. Has run well enough on good to soft. Enters calculations.
Dual AW winner over 5f/6f when with Richard Fahey last year. Has not yet come close to his best form with that trainer in six starts for this one. Looks well in here based on last year's best efforts, but hasn't been hinting strongly at a revival.
Sole win came in a Yarmouth novice event (7f, good to soft) as a juvenile, when with Karl Burke. Improved on that a couple of times that season, but some way below that form in seven runs for this trainer. Big turnaround required down in trip/grade.
Arrives in good form having won three of his last four over 5f/6f, including on testing ground last autumn. Has run well in two recent Tapeta outings at Newcastle. Up another 3lb for his latest win but looks a major player again.
C&D winner on good to soft this time last year, when 2lb higher. Also won from 3lb higher at Ripon in August. Has a good record when fresh, including that win here, so several reasons to think he could go close today.
Triple winner over 5f/6f, two of them in sellers, but the most recent at Redcar (5f, good) last October being in a 0-70 (career-best). Inconsistent since then, and arrives after being last of 12 at Newcastle. Bit to prove.
Multiple 5f winner, including here on good to soft when 19lb higher in 2018. On a 14-race losing run since then. Inconsistent during that time, and plenty to prove, especially over this longer trip.
Scored over both 6f/7f on soft ground when trained in Germany. Failed to match that form in two starts for Stuart Kittow last year. Since changed hands privately, and hard to know what to expect today, so check the market for clues.
Placed in both her juvenile starts, when showing promise. Then had wind surgery and was well below that level in two more runs last season. Can only take a watching brief on this reappearance.
Multiple winner over this trip on good or fast ground, but not as effective when it is slower. Has been slipping to this very competitive mark, so the ability to challenge is there, but has that going concern to overcome.
All three of her wins have been on good or fast ground, although she appears to handle it a bit slower. Well held on her recent Newcastle reappearance, but she did similar last year and improved next time, so she can't be ruled out.
Forecasts
Quanah (7/2), Almurr (4/1), Fox Hill (9/2), Mr Wagyu (6/1), Gullane One (10/1), Dormio (10/1), Constant (11/1), Henley (16/1), Coolagh Magic (18/1), Hard Solution (20/1), Quickly Does It (50/1)
Almurr could go well under topweight in this while Quanah is in cracking form and sets the recent standard. He will be tough to beat, but one who could do is GULLANE ONE, who has won here when fresh and is on a handy mark. Fox Hill is another to consider.
- Gullane One
- Quanah
- Almurr
