Sixth foal; half-brother to Fibresand winners Scooby Doo (6f 2yo) and Sandy Toes (5f), out of a Mind Games mare placed at up to 6f at two. Trainer does best with his 3yos (10% over five years). Cheekpieces on for debut and 5lb claimed. Market check.
£70,000 Breeze-Up purchase by Hot Streak. Supported when 4-1 on recent Newcastle debut (6f, AW) and although not good enough to go with the winner late on, he showed promise in second. Should be a big player here on that evidence.
Well held at generous odds on both starts last autumn, when showing no more than a glimpse of promise. Since gelded. Sticks to 6f on his reappearance, and pedigree suggests that if there is to be success, it will probably come over a bit further.
£12,000 Breeze-Up buy, by Brazen Beau. 150-1 on recent debut in the same Newcastle race as Blazing Hot, but beaten 21L. Can only watch this time.
3,000gns yearling by Slade Power out of a Shamardal mare. 50-1 on debut at Beverley last week (5f, good), when slowly away but suggested he was getting the hang of things late on. Step up to 6f looks positive but he may have to wait for other days.
Had two runs as a juvenile, improving quite a bit for her Beverley debut (5f, good to firm) when returning to that C&D (good to soft) to be less than 3L fourth next time. Open to better going up in trip, and could be competitive.
£240,000 yearling; half-sister to a 1m winner and dam also won over that trip. Drifting 9-1 chance ahead of her recent Newcastle debut (6f, AW) when never seriously involved. Should come on for that and could get more competitive this time.
€15,000 foal; €30,000 yearling; second foal; dam placed 5f-1m. Trainer's best stat on the breakdown over five years is 15% with his 3yos and he does have debut winners, so probably prudent to check the market for any confidence in her chance.
First foal; dam 1m 2yo winner with even greater stamina in her family. Trainer 12% with his 3yos over five seasons, but pedigree suggests this filly will do better with this under her belt and when upped in trip.
Showed promise in her second and third juvenile starts, when going close against her own sex at Haydock (6f, heavy) and also being runner-up at Wolverhampton. Looks capable of picking up one of these, and no surprise if today is the day.
Has posted two similarly promising efforts from her three starts, going closest to winning here on debut (5f, soft) last August. That augurs well both in terms of conditions and the fact that she is freshened again here. Enters calculations.
Forecasts
Blazing Hot (9/4), Quick Recap (9/4), Sendacard (4/1), Continental (5/1), Bay Filly Rolla (18/1), Eternal Blush (22/1), Noddyolder (28/1), Double D's (40/1), Pilgrims Pursuit (80/1), Henet (80/1), Nagamani (125/1)
Arguably the more interesting of the two divisions and a bit like in division two, there will be at least some focus on how the race's most expensive purchase, Continental, goes on. She was well held on debut and will need to make a significant improvement on that to win this time. Preference is for BLAZING HOT, who couldn't handle the winner on his debut, but if he can improve for the run then this looks within his compass. Quick Recap looks the big danger, while Sendacard and Bay Filly Rolla are others for whom cases can be made.
- Blazing Hot
- Quick Recap
- Sendacard
