Decent juvenile winning four times at 6f then ending season with fine second in valuable Listed Redcar event. Showed pace before fading fast in Group 3 at Newcastle on recent return but probably needed the run and may be a threat despite top weight.

Completed winter AW hat-trick in March in Lingfield 6f nursery off 88. Weakened inside distance on return there over 7f and drops back in trip now. Making turf debut and remains 6lb higher than last success.

Caught close home on debut at Wolverhampton 6f in March then made no mistake making all to easily land Kempton 6f maiden earlier this month. Goes handicapping on only third start and is thoroughly unexposed so could prove dangerous.

Stable companion of Meraas. Both wins last season came on soft ground so current wet spell won't do chances any harm. 2lb lower than last outing at Hamilton in September when fourth in 6f nursery.

Well backed on winning debut at Doncaster 5f in May last year then very highly tried when last of five in Group 2 to high-class Siskin. Gelded after and not seen again until fourth of 5 in 6f Newcastle conditions event in February. Handicap bow.

Created good impression when winning at Leicester 5f on debut last term then well beaten in Group 2 Coventry Stakes. Well beaten evens favourite only start since at Newcastle in January. Has a bit to prove on handicap debut.

Both wins last term came at Southwell over 7f, including a handicap off 77. Disappointed both starts since but may have needed recent run. Eased 2lb and first-time cheekpieces applied.

Stable companion of Majestic Sands. Debut win at Newcastle 5f last campaign for Archie Watson before joining current yard. Didn't find too much in two starts this winter over 6f and 7f but may do beter now going handicapping.

Forecasts

Meraas (5/4), Romero (9/2), Corvair (5/1), Makyon (13/2), Hurcle (12/1), Majestic Sands (14/1), Troubador (16/1), Borsdane Wood (50/1)

Verdict

It's hard to know how many of these have trained on having been fair juveniles last term. Handicap debutant MERAAS is having only his third start and won nicely at Kempton last time. From a powerful yard, he is preferred to stable companion Makyon and might just have the edge on his rivals. Troubador did very well last year and finished with an excellent second in hot Listed company at Redcar. He'll be better for a racent pipe-opener, as too will southern raider Corvair. Romero may fulfil some of the promsie of early last term and looks the type to keep on the right side this campaign.
  1. Meraas
  2. Troubador
  3. Romero
