Has an ordinary pedigree, but knew his job on debut at Newcastle (6f) recently, fading after making the running when 5¾L fifth of 10 to Edraak. Has claims if building on that encouraging start upped in trip.
Well-related Shamardal gelding. Hinted at ability when fifth of 7 to Clog Maker in a 6f novice at Lingfield in February. Ought to do a fair bit better, but does need to if he's to get involved.
Delegator half-brother to 1¼m winner Highwaygrey out of a middle-distance winner. This newcomer is likely to need initial experience, and will probably do better over further in time.
By Lope de Vega out of high-class 2-y-o Sense of Joy. Travelled well, but weakened tamely in a 7f maiden at Leopardstown in October before leaving Ger Lyons cheaply. Dangerous to dismiss on evidence of one poor run given his excellent pedigree.
€60,000 Stormy Atlantic Breeze-up purchase. Half-brother to useful US 5f-1m winner Just A Smidge out of a winning 6f performer. Ticks plenty of boxes, and one of the more interesting newcomers.
Full-brother to useful 2-y-o 5½f winner Prince of The Dark, out of multiple sprint handicap winner Fanrouge. Debut at this trip a slight worry, but merits a market check for trainer with impressive strike-rate.
Night of Thunder colt who is closely related to very smart 7f/1m winner Safety Check (four-time Group 2 winner at Meydan). Wide draw problematic for a debutant, but he has a very appealing pedigree, and merits close attention.
By Bated Breath from a good family, and cost 25,000 gns at the Breeze-up sales 13 months ago. Failed to race as a juvenile for Richard Spencer, however, and best watched having been moved on since.
Canford Cliffs gelding who was well beaten in two starts last year. Did show some speed on latter occasion, though, and type to do better when qualified for handicaps.
Ran to a similar modest level in two starts as a juvenile, and gave the impression her stamina was stretched over an extended 1m at Nottingham in October. May well do better, and has been found a fair opening here.
Poet's Voice half-sister to 3 winners, including connections' useful 6f winner Show Stealer. Trainer does well with fillies, and this one needs consideration despite her lack of experience.
Outstrip half-sister to 2-y-o 7f winner Indrapura, out of a full- sister to smart and prolific 7f/1m handicapper Birdman. Price dropped from foal to yearling, and others more appealing on balance.
Forecasts
Relaunch (9/4), Ascraeus (3/1), Benefit Street (6/1), Dakota Moon (13/2), John Jasper (9/1), Performance Poet (12/1), Hachert (28/1), Rosie Mccann (28/1), Lionel Road (33/1), Delgrey Boy (33/1), Vintage Port (66/1), Starter For Ten (80/1)
Benefit Street is arguably the pick on form, but he's backing up fairly quickly after making his debut last week, and preference is for newcomer RELAUNCH, who makes a great deal of appeal on pedigree, and whose yard does well in similar races. Ascraeus was better than the bare result on her second start as a juvenile, and should benefit from the drop back from a mile, so could reward each-way support in a race where the market could be revealing given the scarcity of solid form.
- Relaunch
- Benefit Street
- Ascraeus
