Well bred handicap newcomer who showed plenty of ability last year scoring on her second start having made an eye-catching debut at Windsor. Not seen to best effect on final run of the year (needed stronger gallop); remains with plenty of scope.
Promise in all his turf starts including when winning second time out at Carlisle (1m1f, heavy). Disappointed on AW/handicap debut over the longest trip he's been tested over so far (1m4f), could bounce back (nicely drawn), mark looks stiff though.
Kept busy last year doubling his tally of wins via handicap victories at Nottingham and York over this trip. Generally ran with credit after than; failed to stay 1m6f on his last start of 2019; may well need this, possible softer ground would suit.
Yet to really show much spark for this yard despite a mark that is on a downward curve. Tried over a variety of trips last year from 1m-1m4f, 11lb below his last AW win when with Higo Palmer; wide draw isn't ideal, plenty to prove even off this mark.
0-8 for Harry Dunlop, made immediate strides forward for this yard winning his first two starts on the AW (well backed on each occasion). Ran well when last seen despite failing to complete hat-trick; back on turf/up in grade, tougher ask.
Back from a wind op having racked up five wins last year (mainly over this trip), three of those wins coming at Redcar, finished off the year well over same C&D (better than bare result). Has won off breaks, all wins left-handed, chance at best.
Only one with a recent run; won twice over 7f last year but did look rather lazy at Newcastle (1m, slow) last time. Effect of cheekpieces (won first two races in them) might be wearing off (more severe headgear needed), first time over this trip.
Talented handicapper in his heyday (won off 100) but its now three years since he won and he looks regressive despite a much reduced mark. Majority of his starts last year were below-par, despite being a C&D winner off 87 he's readily passed over.
Assisted by a falling mark when picking up a Carlisle handicap (1m, soft) when last seen (his seventh consecutive Flat run at that course). Scored relatively easily so 4lb rise within his compass, usually held up, goes on the ground, shortlisted.
Fairly useful handicapper although it's nearly two years since he last won; now 3lb below his last winning mark. Generally runs his race (rare poor effort on last run here); draw on the wide outside hardly a help, on balance others appeal a little more.
Dropped to his lowest mark of last year and cashed in on that opportunity when taking a C&D handicap in September (made running). That win came out of the blue and he won't find it as easy to try and dominate this time (wide draw/other pace setters).
Back from a 5-month break with two Tapeta wins over 1m4f/1m6f (tongue-tie refitted), only turf win came on debut over C&D. Arguably better on AW these days; not been seen at this trip for quite some while; faces a tougher task now.
Forecasts
Shauyra (11/8), Defence Treaty (13/2), Aiya (7/1), Roman Stone (15/2), The Navigator (12/1), Music Seeker (14/1), Glasses Up (16/1), Brooklyn Boy (18/1), Mr Coco Bean (20/1), Glan Y Gors (28/1), Banksea (50/1), Star Archer (66/1)
This ought to be run at a good pace with at least three of these who like to go forward sure to set a good gallop amongst them C&D win Aiya although conditions will be very different this time and his wide draw is a hinderance. Defence Treaty has had a recent outing, he stayed on well over 1m at Newcastle but this will be his first try at 1m2f and his stable are still struggling for form. The likely pace profile should help handicap newcomer SHAUYRA who was unsuited by a slow gallop when last seen and her mark could be a lenient one. Mr Coco Bean and The Navigator both have enough quality to win an event such as his and form another duo that are of interest.
- Shauyra
- The Navigator
- Mr Coco Bean
