Developing well last year as a 3yo prior to getting a mystery bug and almost passing away; scored comfortably at Musselburgh (7f, soft) when last seen. Rated 8lb higher than for that win connections believe he could be better than a handicapper.
Posted some creditable efforts last year but failed to win although he was highly tried on most outings (only ran in one handicap). C&D winner under a penalty as a 2yo; would have a chance off this mark if the break has freshened him up.
Makes his turf debut having risen through the handicap on the AW (won five times, looking for a four-timer here). Blinkers also look to have been the key to him but this is a totally different scenario off an 11lb higher mark in better company.
Made a winning career debut for Brian Meehan bur was largely disappointing for that yard failing to stop the slide through the grades. Now with a new yard with a first-time tongue-tie applied and a career-low mark to work with; watch in the market.
Made hay last year winning four times overall taking back-to-back handicaps twice (one of the most improved handicappers in the North). 6lb higher than his last winning mark though and the chances are the handicapper has now got his measure.
Failed to finish the season on a high note but looked a fair sort when making all to win at Ayr in September (7f, good). It's possible this scenario 1m round a bend could be ideal for him although his mark does look a little on the high side currently.
Dual course winner with one of those victories at this trip; with a shrewd yard that are bound to capitalise on his slide down the weights at some point. Has won off long breaks twice in the past but at his age liable to need the run this time.
Creeping back down to his last winning mark but failed to win last season when he seemed to be in the grip of the handicapper despite some placed efforts. Ran well last year over C&D off a break but others just seem to have a little more scope.
First run for this yard who appear a little quiet at the moment on the resumption of racing (formerly with Hugo Palmer. Former Listed winner who now looks off a very handy mark but the stable move needs to have revitalised him.
Four-time winner as a 3yo his career has rather stagnated since then although he has been lightly-raced. Arguably nicely weighted now he does need to show some more spark before he can be supported especially in this competitive heat.
Hard to ignore any runners from this yard since the resumption; three-time 1m winner on soft/heavy last year (undefeated on ground with cut). Only 3lb higher than her last win she has to be of interest in this grade; any further rain a major plus.
Formerly with Richard Hannon he was solid to current connections for 30,000gns in October (subsequently gelded). A four-time winner he can look a little quirky (often slow away); ended last season in the doldrums, needs some help at the weights.
Forecasts
Be More (11/4), Cap Francais (7/2), Brian Epstein (9/2), Kaloor (6/1), Hot Team (12/1), Brains (14/1), Knighted (14/1), Markazi (18/1), Gulf Of Poets (33/1), Just Hiss (40/1), Redarna (40/1), Rum Runner (66/1)
A fascinating heat where plenty of attention is likely to focus on the Andrew Balding trained Be More with the yard firing in the winners at will. She’s sure to go close especially if the course receives any further precipitation but the topweight BRIAN EPSTEIN has the potential to be better than a handicapper. Progressive last year if he’s ready to roll after over a year off he could still prove well handicapped. Brains faces a very different test to the ones he’s been facing so it may be worth keeping an eye on Cap Francais and Kaloor in the market both of whom had more lofty pretensions earlier in their careers, they could lurk on good marks.
- Brian Epstein
- Be More
- Cap Francais
