Well beaten all starts so far, mark falling quickly already and rated just 41 now; hopes pinned on a switch to new surface, but hard to make a case for.

One win from 15 starts at the track and simply looks on the downgrade these days, rated just 40 now but did throw in one of his better efforts when fourth in a handicap here last time, a run that gives him chances with a repeat.

Well below par at Newcastle last time out but his earlier second over 6f here would give him every chance in this moderate contest; isn't the most consistent so that is far from a given, but chance is there to see.

Has a couple of C&D efforts to his name that would give him some sort of a chance here but is still a maiden after 16 starts, which rings plenty of alarm bells; probably playing for the places at best, then.

No wins or places in 13 starts and simply looks very moderate, whatever the trip he's tried at; not hard to look elsewhere for the winner.

Would give this lot a start and a beating on the best of his 2018 form (rated in the 80s) but it's been a tale of woe for some time now; has switched to the master trainer at this track though, and with Ben Curtis booked, any money needs noting.

Doesn't win very often but one of her three successes came at this track, so has that going for her; in no great form at present but this lowly race gives her a chance, and she has each-way chances.

Poor effort at Kempton last time needs forgiving but had hit the frame in her previous two starts, almost winning at Chelmsford in January; acts on this surface and she looks one of the more likely winners.

Still a maiden after 19 attempts and her one start on this surface pulled up no trees; not seen out since August anyway and very likely to need the run, so others make more appeal.

Mrs Munnellyv17
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-7| J: George Rooke(5)| T: D P Quinn| OR:  38

Has only beaten two horses home in three starts and is rated just 38; is at least open to improvement and this surface ought to suit; worth a cursory glance in the market for any support, as she is at least open to improvement.

Came as close as he has to winning a race when a 2l fourth at Wolverhampton last time out, although that was over 5f and he didn't look to be crying out for a return to six; at least he comes here in some form, which is more than most of them do.

Forecasts

Lacan (9/4), Ghost Buy (5/1), Tilsworth Rose (6/1), Hellofagame (9/1), Champagne Mondays (9/1), Poppy May (10/1), Rebecke (10/1), Tizwotitiz (12/1), Badger Berry (16/1), Jailbreak (18/1), Parker's Boy (25/1), Mrs Munnelly (66/1)

Verdict

The interesting one here is LACAN, who will see this lot off with the minimum of fuss if he can recapture anything like his old form, having been rated in the 80s not two years ago, but he has looked out of sorts for some time now. However, he wouldn't be the first horse that Mick Appleby has got his hands on and turned around, and the first time blinkers and booking of Ben Curtis suggest they mean business. He's worth chancing. If he can't win then it's basically up for grabs - take your pick from Poppy May, Tilsworth Rose, Champagne Mondays and Ghost Buy as four of the most likely ones.
  1. Lacan
  2. Tilsworth Rose
  3. Poppy May
