Course winner who is the highest rated in this contest, but makes his seasonal reappearance with something to prove given he was tailed-off at Epsom (6f; good) when last seen. Best watched against fitter, in-form rivals.
Won fresh in the past, so 149-day absence isn't a great concern. However, his progress seemingly tailed off towards the end of last season. Still 5lb above last winning mark, but he wouldn't need to improve drastically to feature.
Mark has been falling for a short while now, and he showed more encouraging signs when third over C&D at the start of the month. That effort came in this grade, and he has solid claims if able to build on that off an unchanged mark.
Failed to land a glove on the front two when third at Chelmsford (5f; standard) on Tuesday. C&D winner on his penultimate start when denying Something Lucky by a head. 8lb worse off with that rival this time round though.
Work to do with both Green Door and Something Lucky who he finished 5th behind on handicap debut. This is just his second handicap start, but he looks vulnerable for win purposes given what he has shown since joining this stable.
Considerably better off at the weights with Green Door after their meeting two starts ago, and should now reverse the placings with that rival. Bumped into the progressive Tone The Barone recently. Excellent claims of ending long losing run.
Forecasts
Reflektor (6/4), Green Door (2/1), Jack The Truth (6/1), Something Lucky (6/1), Momtathil (11/1), Zac Brown (33/1)
On paper this looks a three horse race. Reflektor posted his most encouraging effort for a number of months when beaten just a length into third over C&D last time out. He has fallen 12lb below his last winning mark, so could be well-handicapped if able to build upon that recent effort. However, SOMETHING LUCKY has been gifted a golden opportunity to record his first career success in a year-and-a-half given he receives an 8lb pull at the weights with Green Door who beat him by the narrowest of margins over C&D two starts ago. Despite his moderate recent strike-rate, he looks the most reliable option in this contest due to his consistent overall profile.
- Something Lucky
- Reflektor
- Green Door
