French form reads well in the context of this race; won a Listed race at Chantilly in June and subsequently placed at the same level at Deaville a month later. Eased when held in a Group 1 last time but this is a lot easier; has to be monitored.
Finished behind Infrastructure in a valuable handicap at York last time out but had already enjoyed a profitable summer with three straight wins in May/June. He's 2-5 on the AW and can go well fresh. Dangerous to underestimate.
Couldn't reel in the leaders in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket in October and plugged on at the one pace to finish ninth; but he's got a liking for this course and will be a player if he runs to the form of his good second in the Northumberland Plate.
A very capable performer on his day and notably unexposed on the AW; handled the Polytrack at Kempton well last time but more needed now he tries 2m for the only the second time. A strong pace will help.
His effort to be third in the Yorkshire Cup on the Knavesmire is the pick of last season's form and he should be sharper for the run when he was held in a Listed race at Kempton earlier this month. Up in trip but more to come. A player.
Globe-trotter who ran a blinder to be fourth in the Ebor before jetting off to the Melbourne Cup last month. No joy in Aus but this is still within reach if he's over his latest travel experience. Excellent chance at the weights if on his 'A-Game'.
Third in a Class 2 handicap here last month gives him a squeak as his course experience could be a vital tool now that his fitness has been topped up. However, the balance of his 2019 form suggests that a few of these hold an edge on these terms.
Finished a head in front of Infrastructure at Kempton last month but worse off at the weights and will do well to confirm the form here. Needs to prove that Polytrack display wasn't just a flash-in-the-pan.
Forecasts
Raymond Tusk (11/4), Mildenberger (3/1), Carnwennan (11/2), Dubawi Fifty (13/2), Infrastructure (9/1), Sir Chauvelin (10/1), Funny Kid (12/1), To Be Wild (40/1)
An interesting race for the time of year and one which may come at the right time for MILDENBERGER, whose fitness will have been helped by a blow out at Kempton ten days ago. The selection's dam won over this trip and, given his trainer's imperious record with stayers, this might open new doors for him. Raymond Tusk is back in the UK after a valiant effort in the Melbourne Cup but he had a hard race that day and hasn't had much time to acclimatise after the journey back home. Infrastructure is unexposed at the trip and is another to bear in mind, while support for French raider Funny Kid has foundations, too. Sir Chauvelin is also good each-way value.
- Mildenberger
- Raymond Tusk
- Sir Chauvelin
