Disappointing on penultimate start, but profile is positive overall, and back to form when landing a 1m handicap at Newcastle last time by a neck from Home Before Dusk. Up 5lb for that, but rider's claims offsets that rise.

Won at Meydan in January, but patchy form since, and well held in a Listed race at Sandown in July when last seen. Has a bit to prove, for all this is a slightly easier task.

Just 1lb higher than when winning at Chelmsford (by short head from Maid For Life) in August, and better effort since when a creditable sixth of 14 to Eva Maria at Newmarket last time, Return to 1m likely to suit based on that effort.

Won on racecourse bow, and again on reappearance at Newcastle. Went close again when a head second at Haydock in June, and excuses after a break last time when racing on much softer ground. Could easily bounce back.

Inconsistent mare who justified favouritism at Bath in August, but has been well held twice since. Others make much more appeal on recent evidence.

Won over C&D in February, beating Margie's Choice, and just 1lb higher now, but he has been off for six months, and is entitled to need the run, having no great record fresh.

Disappointing on sole 2018 start for Roger Varian, and off a year before a poor return/debut for new connections. Entitled to come on for that run, but his patchy profile doesn't inspire confidence.

Won her first two AW starts for Saeed Bin Suroor, and ran well on handicap bow when second of 7 to Adelante at Wolverhampton (7f) in April. Sold for 30,000 gns in the summer, and may have more to offer for her new yard. Usual hood retained here.

Beat subsequent winner Harvey Dent when landing a lady riders' event at Chester in June, and best effort since when a close fifth to Jalaad at Newcastle last time. Has subsequently left Roger Varian.

Scored over C&D in August, and has improved again since, finishing a fine neck third of 14 to Jabalaly at Chelmsford last time. Well berthed here, and should make a bold bid once more.

Remains a maiden, but appeared to show improved form when a close fourth of 13 to Sea Fox in a 1m½f handicap at Wolverhampton last time, although that came in a blanker finish, so the form may not be entirely reliable.

Forecasts

Dargel (9/4), Jalaad (3/1), Rangali Island (9/2), Gallic (5/1), Magic Mirror (8/1), Hesslewood (14/1), Sezim (20/1), Diamond Oasis (20/1), Al Hayette (33/1), Profound (50/1), Samphire Coast (66/1), Secret Return (66/1)

Verdict

DARGEL is a C&D winner who pulled out further improvement when a close third at Chelmsford last time, and he looks likely to take a deal of beating from his handy draw. Jalaad isn't the easiest of rides, but was back to winning ways at Newcastle and is feared most, although Gallic is better than she's shown on recent starts, and is a danger with the drop back in trip likely to suit.
