Horse A-Z
Showed some signs of ability when making a fair debut at Nottingham (1m, heavy) earlier this month; lacked fitness to make a real impression. Entitled to improve; one of three that the trainer runs in this.

By Lope De Vega; price increased by 115,000 guineas from foal to yearling, first foal out of a once-raced dam (half-sister to the smart 7f winner Blue De Vega). Yard won a division of this last year with a newcomer who won a Group 3 this year.
Newcomer by Born To Sea; half-sister to three winners including smart winner up to 1¾m Raheen House (2yo 1m winner). Pedigree laden with stamina; one of the more likely players, should handle the conditions well.

Yard know this family well; half-sister to stables 1000 Guineas winner Billesdon Brook. Went with little encouragement on her 6f debut here last month (dropped away 2f out); should know more this time; one of three from the yard.

Horse silk
Nathaniel filly who makes her debut (looks the less fancied of the yard's two runners in this); dam maiden half-sister to very smart 1m2f-1m4f winner Gospel Choir. Represents leading connections and certainly not out of this.
One of three from the yard but the only one making her debut; half-sister to useful 2yo 6f-7f winner Gobi Desert. Dam lightly-raced half-sister to smart Coastal Path; yard had a winning 2yo debutant here yesterday, would need to be useful to win.

Age: 2|  Weight: 9-0| J: David Egan| T: H Morrison
Looks to be the least fancied in the market of the three from this yard having produced a modest debut effort at Ascot (1m, good/firm). Failed to match her debut form at Nottingham (1m, soft) last time; looks one for the longer term.

Horse silk
By Camelot she makes her debut as one of two first-time runners the yard send into this contest. €100,000 yearling, half-sister to several winners, including the useful at up to 1m4f Distain; one to note in the market.

Horse silk
Newcomer by Australia (sire gets plenty of winners on soft/heavy ground); yard 20-111 with juveniles this year (five first-time out winners). Respected given the connections, one of the more likely types.
Ran to a fair level on her debut at Nottingham (considerate introduction) over 1m in soft conditions before failing to get home at Goodwood (1m2f, heavy). A return to this trip may help but not as stoutly-bred as some of these; may need more time.

Sri Sene Power78
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-0| J: M Dwyer| T: R Hannon
Very green on her AW (Kempton) debut over 6f showing very little and finishing last; hardly improved from that second time around after an absence. Now tries very different conditions, up in trip; plenty to prove.

Forecasts

Born With Pride (7/2), Angel Power (4/1), Annie De Vega (4/1), Tacitly (5/1), Merryweather (6/1), Choral Work (6/1), Kepala (10/1), Exhibit (12/1), By My Side (14/1), Lady Excalibur (16/1), Bruisa (16/1), Medika (20/1), Ragtime Sally (25/1), Ampney Red (25/1), Josephine Bettany (33/1), Sri Sene Power (33/1), Kavadi (50/1)

Verdict

Despite three non-runners this is still a tricky contest although for the most part those to have run already don’t set a particularly high standard. Kepala and Merryweather are the most interesting out of that group but this could well go the way of a newcomer as the first division did last year. Roger Varian was the trainer of that debutant, that makes his Angel Power one for the shortlist alongside the William Haggas runner Born With Pride one of two first-timers the trainers runs in this, Choral Work being the other. Roger Charlton struck with a debutant here on Friday and could do so again with the well-bred Dubawi filly TACITLY, a strong market move for her will heighten hopes.
  1. Tacitly
  2. Angel Power
  3. Born With Pride
