Not seen since finishing down the field in a 1m novice stakes here last December and plenty to prove after such a modest display. Bred to be effective at the trip but others make more appeal at this stage.

Cost €20,000 at the Baden Baden sales in May and is a half-brother to German miler Bourree, who later stepped up to win a Group 3 in France over 1m2f; worth a betting check on debut in modest company.

Best effort for Mark Johnston was posted when second of 12 in a 1m maiden at Newcastle last November but not seen out since finishing mid division in a novice on the Tapeta at Wolverhampton the following month. Up in trip on debut for a new yard.

Has winners in his pedigree and is a half-brother to Blue Bahia and Rivellino, who both won on the AW; not shown much in two previous starts and a lot to prove now tried in blinkers for the first time.

Broke slowly and showed his inexperience on debut at Leicester in September and needs a big step forward to figure here. Plenty of winners in his family but looks like he'll need more time.

A half-brother to AW winner Burmese, who won between 1m5f and 2m in his time; the colt's dam is an influence for stamina and liklihood this trip will suit on his introduction to racing. Worth noting in the betting.

A half-sister to Montaly, who won the Group 2 Lonsdale Cup at York for this yard back in 2017 so right to expect the trainer will know where to place this filly to best effect. There was promise on her debut last month and very likely more to come.

Definite promise in both previous starts and stayed on past beaten horses to claim a well held fourth behind a decent enough yardstick last time out. The step up in trip should suit; place claims if taking a step forward.

Appeals on pedigree and, as a half-sister to She Is No Lady, who won her maiden over this trip before going on to win a Listed race in France later in her career, this looks a good starting point. One to note with an eye on the future. (Yard quiet.)
Well held in both previous outings and the step up in trip needs to bring about a much improved effort. Qualifies for a handicap mark after this but the filly looks to be of modest ability judging by the evidence available.

Debut run wasn't devoid of promise and she certainly enhanced that theory when third of ten in a decent novice at Windsor last month. The slight step up in trip can help again; one to consider for a place at least.

Forecasts

Torbellino (11/8), End Over End (4/1), Badessa (5/1), Capla Crusader (8/1), Border Warrior (9/1), Brighton Pier (14/1), Tinkerbird (40/1), Social City (66/1), Hey Gracie (66/1), Smart Samba (66/1), Lilly's Legacy (150/1)

Verdict

Not the strongest of maidens but there should be more to come from BADESSA, who is a half-sister to Group 2 winner Montaly, whom Andrew Balding handled well during her career. This filly showed a lot of promise after a slow starts on her debut at Wolverhampton last month and, with that experience to draw from, it would come as no surprise to see her step things up to another level now. End Over End is another who is going the right way and merits serious consideration if supported in the betting; as does Capla Crusader, who sets the standard at the moment and is likely to be thereabouts even though he debuts for a new yard. Torbellino is another to monitor closely.
  1. Badessa
  2. End Over End
  3. Capla Crusader
