Lightly-raced 5yo who is less exposed than many of these although all he's done so far is to hint at having some ability. Failed to look like justifying some strong support at Wolverhampton (7f) last time; always behind after blowing the start.
Winner of a division of this last year off a 2lb higher mark he comes here in similarly good form having finally got the job done for this yard last time over further at Wolverhampton. Penalised 4lb he has a fine chance of following up; yard in form.
Hold-up performer whose 0-8 here but did shape well over 1m2f at Bath last time and is on a good mark (9lb below last winning one) if everything falls right. Course form is slightly off putting but can't be ruled out in this basement grade.
Hard sort to win with as a 2-59 career record proves but did provide a 100-1 shock win at Salisbury under a surprise front-running ride in an amateurs event (1m) in August. Not matched that form since; well beaten on the AW last time; hard to trust.
Won one of the two divisions of this race last year off the same mark but has yet to win since then and has for the most part run poorly this year. Well beaten over 1m last time at Brighton a repeat of last year is hard to see this time around.
Yet to win a race and showed very little progress last time out on her second run for this yard in first-time cheekpieces over 6f at Southwell. Now tries this trip for the first time off a career low mark but makes no particular appeal.
One of seven maidens in the field she returned to the AW (Tapeta) last time but ran well below form having looked amiss (reportedly had a breathing problem). Yet to prove that she stays this far; one of the lesser lights in this contest.
Seemingly gone backwards after showing a glimmer of promise on his debut back in May at Goodwood. Quickly dropped in the handicap (down 13lb in three starts); went with little promise at Epsom last time; little appeal back on the AW.
C&D winner earlier in the year when winning readily having raced freely, that success coming off a 2lb lower mark. Looks far better on AW; ran well over 7f at Lingfield (AW) last time (August); may need this outing to be seen to full effect.
Dual 7f Lingfield (AW) winner off similar marks but those two victories remain her only successes and she's yet to win for over a year. Shaped as if in reasonable form last time over7f here but left poorly placed by another slow start; drawn wide.
Another of the maidens in the line up (0-13) who continues in cheekpieces having not been seen to best effect over 7f here last time (slow away, given plenty to do). Basically had a hopeless task from his position; suffers a poor draw this time.
Hard to find much encouragement in any of his Irish starts apart from a handicap second at Killarney earlier in the year over 1m (well positioned). First-time cheekpieces worn last time now dispensed with as he makes his stable/GB debut.
Modest handicapper with a 2-58 career record and a fair losing sequence to deal with although he has slipped to a basement mark. May well have needed the run when back from a break last time (shaped quite well); chance in a poor heat.
12-race maiden who has become progressively more disappointing having fallen quickly enough to a low point in the handicap. Fared no better in a first-time tongue-tie in 0-50 company over 6f at Chelmsford last time; minimal appeal.
Forecasts
Pike Corner Cross (7/4), Purple Paddy (4/1), Doogan's Warren (11/2), Confab (8/1), Cottingham (10/1), Itmakesyouthink (12/1), Mister Musicmaster (20/1), Solveig's Song (20/1), Such Promise (25/1), Flying Sakhee (25/1), Vikivaki (33/1), Dukes Meadow (50/1), Haraz (66/1), Chop Chop (66/1)
The two horses that won the opposing divisions of this race last year return and there’s no doubt that PIKE CORNER CROSS is in better form that Solveig’s Song and has the better chance of winning again over this C&D coming here off a win, a 4lb penalty shouldn’t cause the David Evans charge any problems. Mister Musicmaster arrives on a good mark and could well get involved although his course form and wide draw do pose some question marks. Purple Paddy is the sort to pop up in an event such as this but may need the outing while Dukes Meadow can be given a chance. Despite a poor draw Doogan’s Warren is one to note for a market move on his stable/GB debut.
- Pike Corner Cross
- Purple Paddy
- Mister Musicmaster
