Started at 50-1 on both starts so far and went backwards from his debut at Windsor last time. Hard to see him making an impression at this level and best watched for now.

Gone the wrong way since his debut where he shaped as if he was in need of the experience. Well beaten in testing conditions at Goodwood last time (raced off the pace) finishing well held; may be seen to better effect in handicaps.

Failed to come on for his debut when well beaten here over 1m last time never looking a threat. Started 66-1 on both starts and sure to be as unfancied in this heat; one who can only be watched at present.

3/1
Appears to be on an upward curve although his progress may have looked to have stalled last time when only fourth at Goodwood over this trip in testing conditions. May be better on a sounder surface (pedigree suggests as much); still a major player.
The only newcomer in the field his yard are 15-98 with debutants this year; brother to smart winner up to 2m Notarised (2yo 1m2f winner) and half-brother to several winners. Ought to relish this test and dangerous to write off on debut.

Gives the impression that a real test will suit having started his career in a 1m novice (future stayers' event) here last month. Very green and slow to stride he showed enough to make him of interest in an event such as this.

Started at big prices on both starts over 1m with ease in the ground looking as though a greater test of stamina such as this would suit. Has work to do with the principals; main priority here may be to gain a mark for handicaps.
Brother to several winners he's bred to improve with age and racing having shown plenty to work on from his Ayr debut (finished third). Inexperience showed through on his debut, bred to be suited by this distance and further; worthy of shortlisting.

5/2
Showed ability when a beaten favourite on debut at Carlisle looking the sort to prove a much better 3yo. Progressed from his debut at Goodwood last time over this trip handling the testing conditions well, meets two rivals from that race; big player.

9/2
Improving race-to-race with his best effort coming last time when finishing second at Goodwood (1m2f, heavy), Stag Horn/Herman Hesse behind. Sure to go well again having established a solid platform; will be suited by further in time.

The only filly in the field she's been well held on both her starts so far looking to be a cheap purchase (2,500 guineas yearling) given her pedigree. Yet to encounter conditions such as these; best watched for now.

Forecasts

Stag Horn (5/2), Herman Hesse (3/1), Tantivy (9/2), Midnights Legacy (11/2), Salamanca School (6/1), Justified (16/1), Buto (40/1), Derek Le Grand (66/1), Royal Bassett (66/1), Arthalot (80/1), Rally Driver (100/1), Margaretha (125/1)

Verdict

The second, third and fourth from an interesting maiden at Goodwood all take each other on again and it would be easy to assume that Tantivy who was second would have the measure of the two that finished behind him again but STAG HORN (third) may be able to reverse the form given he didn’t have the best track position last time. Herman Hesse (fourth) should also be in the equation again but he looks to need further already and this is a relatively sharp test. Mark Johnston (good record here) runs Salamanca School, he’s expected to improve for his debut whilst newcomer Justified should relish this trip with his pedigree. Midnights Legacy also deserves a mention and some attention.
  1. Stag Horn
  2. Tantivy
  3. Salamanca School
