Stays a mile well and handles some cut, so has some plus points, but his recent form has tailed off somewhat and he does need to refind his better form to hold a chance here. Others make more appeal.

Does have a win at this trip to his name but tends to race at shorter these days. Good effort when taken to Maison-Laffite last time out but these conditions will place extra emphasis on his stamina and on that, others are preferred.

Scooted home under similar conditions here in August, running out a 7l winner, but took a hit in the weights for that and was readily beaten here last time out. Might be that the handicapper has her now, so she needs to improve again.

Not really going anywhere in recent starts but does give the impression he retains enough ability to win a race of this nature. Conditions probably no issue and if there was a bit of money around for him, he'd have to be taken seriously.

Has been steadily progressive all season and didn't look like he was finished for the year yet after a good second in a valuable (for the grade) race at Musselburgh last time. This ground a concern but that aside, one of the more likely ones.

Unlucky not to score at Bath two starts ago, losing out in a very narrow finish, but poor again last time out and there are simply too many moderate efforts this year for comfort. Not sure this ground is what he wants, either.

C&D winner in a lower grade here in June, but has come nowhere near that form in five subsequent starts and that highlights her inconsistency. Clearly no issue with conditions but comes with plenty of risk attached.

Handles soft ground well and has a C&D win to her name too, so has plenty to recommend her, especially after a good effort at Thirsk last time out too. Declared to run at Leicester yesterday.

Handles heavy ground but is just the one win from 17 starts, which has to be a concern. Bit below par when made favourite at Ayr last time and overall profile suggests he'll find something too good for him again today.

Sent off big prices for low-grade handicaps on most of his recent starts and is showing nowhere near enough to think he's up to making an impression here.

Forecasts

Classic Charm (7/2), Eponina (11/2), Knowing Glance (6/1), Make Me (7/1), My Ukulele (7/1), Sir Plato (7/1), Fitzrovia (12/1), Imperial State (14/1), Moxy Mares (16/1), Hitman (33/1), Mujassam (33/1)

Verdict

A lot depends on whether EPONINA takes her chance after Leicester yesterday, as she has her conditions and looks a likely player. If she does, then she would probably be the pick, but if she doesn't then it looks very open. Imperial State comes with a few risks but these conditions might be ideal and he keeps dropping the odd hint that there's a race in him sooner rather than later. Fitzrovia is even more risky but has a C&D win to her name this year and could conceivably bounce back under conditions that suit. My Ukelele is much more solid but does have to prove she handles this slower ground.
  1. Eponina
  2. Imperial State
  3. Fitzrovia
