5/4
Back to winning ways when a decisive 2¾L winner of a Class 7 C&D handicap here last week; 2lb well-in (due a 7lb rise) under a 5lb penalty; very strong claims, although isn't 100% guaranteed to frank that form with Frea.

Dual C&D winner (came back-to-back in early 2018); her last three runs at this track leave plenty to be desired - always behind and never involved last of 12 over C&D (Class 6) four weeks ago; stablemate of Royal Mezyan.

2-24 on the AW, and looks to be gradually working his way back to form after a summer break; finished a closing third (beaten 2L) in a C&D classified stakes a fortnight ago; much preferred stablemate of Good Business; definite squeak.

Age: 3|  Weight: 9-5| J: B Doyle| T: Mrs I G-Leveque| OR:  49
5/1
Six-race maiden; 33-1 when given a forceful ride from Brett Doyle in a Class 6 1m handicap here a fortnight ago - weakening to finish fourth of 15 to Parknacilla; there's clear logic in dropping back in trip (to 6f).

Maiden (0-4); unable to land a blow (tenth of 13) on handicap debut over C&D four weeks ago; truthfully has shown precious little natural ability to date.

Praxedisv47
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-4| J: Hayley Turner| T: R M H Cowell| OR:  47
25/1
13-race maiden; was beaten 6L by the Mike Murphy-trained Kellington Kitty (twice beaten since) in a 5½f Class 6 maiden handicap at Bath (good to soft) in August; look elsewhere for the solution.

Age: 3|  Weight: 9-3| J: Rossa Ryan| T: M Murphy| OR:  47

11-race maiden; has shown little in the way of positive form since his juvenile days (placed in a low-grade 6f Catterick nursery last October); first-time tongue tie replaces a visor.

Age: 4|  Weight: 9-2| J: L Morris| T: C Hobson| OR:  45

30-race maiden; remote last of 11 to Broughton Excels over C&D (Class 7) last week; needs a Lazarus style revival in order to play any constructive part.

Frea7
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-2| J: R Havlin| T: H J L Dunlop| OR:  46

Evidently is no star (0-6), although she deserves credit for returning from a four-month absence (33-1) with a fast-finishing 3½L fourth to Broughton Excels over C&D (Class 7) last week; could feasibly get much closer tonight on revised terms.

Waneen7
Age: 6|  Weight: 9-2| J: Hollie Doyle| T: J Butler| OR:  45| C
20/1
All three career wins have come on the AW (Chelmsford, Wolverhampton and Lingfield); in reasonable shape at the likes of Bath and Brighton early in the season, yet increasingly poor since; is palpably held by both Broughton Excels and Frea.

Catapultp7

Hit the target just once in 35 starts; that said, he appears to handle most artificial surfaces and was twice placed on Fibresand at Southwell (6f) last month; Josephine Gordon has established a fair strike-rate for Shaun Keighley; isn't discounted.

Veteran; has rediscovered a spark (of sorts) since joining Kevin Frost; kept on well towards the finish when fourth of ten to the speedy Archimedes at Beverley (5f, good to firm) six weeks ago; 3-36 on the AW.

Lowly-rated nine-race maiden; was having her first start in almost four months when a never nearer eighth of 13 (50-1) in a Class 6 classified stakes at Southwell last week; may strip fitter.

Forecasts

Broughton Excels (5/4), Obsession For Gold (5/1), Catapult (7/1), Frea (7/1), Manzoni (8/1), Penwood (8/1), Royal Mezyan (12/1), Waneen (20/1), Such Promise (20/1), Storm Lightning (25/1), Praxedis (25/1), Good Business (33/1), Ar Saoirse (33/1), Atwaar (50/1)

Verdict

Broughton Excels is the headline horse in a very weak finale. He was a decisive winner of a similar Class 7 handicap over C&D last week, and is effectively 2lb 'well-in' under his incurred 5lb penalty. However, he isn't 100% guaranteed to confirm placings with the lightly-raced three-year-old filly Frea who was spotted making strong late progress (fourth) on her first competitive outing since May. Both of those aforementioned horses are almost certain to figure towards the top-end of the market, so a possible each-way angle is sought with the Henry Spiller-trained ROYAL MEZYAN steadily working his way back to form following a summer break.
  1. Royal Mezyan
  2. Broughton Excels
  3. Frea
