Lightly raced four-year-old gained third win over 1m½f at Epsom penultimately. Disappointing next under a penalty when odds-on at Haydock but better latest after a break at Musselburgh and interesting now upped in trip.

Looked one to follow when winning a Haydock handicap in the summer but disappointing the last twice especially as favourite at Wolverhampton latest where he could only manage fourth of six. Risky now but bounce back possible.

First career win at Bath latest when he came through with a terrific run to land a 1m2f handicap going away. 3lb rise not enough to rule him out if as effective back on AW (two previous races inconclusive).

Won once for Mark Johnston and promise about his second here over 1m two starts back and running on third at Newbury upped to 1m2f latest. Still unexposed over this sort of trip and respected here.

Although perhaps not one to trust implicitly he has run well in two of his last three starts and his second at Goodwood last time over this trip a particularly pleasing effort. A tricky ride but if delivered to perfection he could go close.

Steadily progressive sort won two and finished a close second in between in last three starts all over 1m2f at Chelmsford. 3lb rise not enough to temper enthusiasm and an extra 1f should see him eek more improvement out now.

Improved for step up in trip last time when third to a smart sort. Runner-up has won since and he is attractively weighted for handicap debut with the extra 1f likely to yield further improvement.

Won over 1m4½f at Newcastle two starts back and ran well there latest too when second over the same trip. Midfield in two previous visits here but they were over 1m and should do better over this trip.

Ex-Andrew Balding trained maiden ran pretty well when a staying on third over Carlisle in recent stable/handicap debut over 1m. This is tougher but looked like he could improve for a step up in trip there so be folly to rule him out.

Maiden of hurdles and Flat races may be here for a confidence boost having parted with the jockey last time over obstacles. Makes little appeal for betting purposes.

Verdict

In a wide-open contest the vote goes to Roger Charlton's JUNIOR RIP who is clearly a progressive performer at this stage of his career and after a trio of excellent efforts at Chelmsford it's hard to envisage anything but another bold bid. Fellow three-year-olds Purdey's Gift and Puerto Banus are both quite lightly raced and have hinted that their best days may lie ahead.
