Added to a Newbury success when landing a valuable York handicap. Looks at home with a bit of cut in the ground and probably worth forgiving his effort last time when bidding to make all over further at Doncaster.

Produced a promising performance on debut here before following up at odds-on in a maiden at Hamilton. Group company beyond him last time in the Gimcrack but given a feasible mark for handicap debut here.

Won twice early in the campaign but has gone backwards since. Doesn't always look straightforward but certainly has ability and first-time blinkers could see him in a better light. Drop back to 6f should suit.

Won a pair of fast ground novice events on each of his first two starts but very disappointing when failing to beat a rival home in behind some of these at York last time on handicap debut. Likely better than that and drying ground will suit.

Won his Hamilton maiden in good style in June but didn't look straightforward when bidding to justify favouritism at Doncaster two starts ago. Gave the impression a step up in trip may be in order at Kempton last time and others make more appeal.

Showed promise in a trio of starts, particularly at Redcar in July and confirmed that promise with a handicap debut win at Hamilton last time out, running on well at the death. First-time visor replaces cheekpieces and ought to get a pace to aim at.

Justified favouritism at Yarmouth (5f, soft) on his second start and returned to that level of form when only narrowly denied at Beverley last time out. However, likely to need improvement with some potentially well handicapped sorts in here.

Keep Busy8

Ran well on each of her first four starts, getting off the mark at the third attempt when winning at Carlisle prior to her handicap debut win at Haydock next time. Has gone the wrong way in two starts since though and handicapper refuses to relent.

Only found Hurstwood too good on debut at York but failed to justify odds of 1/5 next time out. Beaten at odds on again next time out and down the field on handicap debut at Goodwood; others preferred.

Runner-up behind Keep Busy on debut and has run to a similar level in three starts since. Has a bit to find having been well beaten from a 2lb higher mark at Carlisle last time out.

Heavy ground winner at Nottingham but failed to back that up next time out in contrasting conditions at Brighton. Starts out for a new yard and the drop back in trip might help but it would be no surprise if he wanted heavier ground given his sire.

Rapid Russo39
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-9| J: K Stott| T: M Dods| OR:  77

Down the field on his first two starts but he left that form behind when winning at Catterick on soft ground at odds of 20/1 last month. Could well build on that here for a yard that excels with their sprinters.

Green on debut but she showed promise in her next two outings, particularly on heavy ground at Leicester in July. Down the field in a tough event at York last time though and likely vulnerable from this mark

Aberama Gold48

Won a novice event at Carlisle but he's failed to build on that in two handicap starts since, particularly disappointing when sent off favourite at Hamilton last time out. Has a bit to find on that evidence.

Age: 2|  Weight: 8-7| J: J P Sullivan| T: K Dalgleish| OR:  75

Won a good ground novice event at Hamilton but very disappointing in two subsequent runs. Return to quick ground on turf could help but looks vulnerable in a race of this depth.

Arrives here making his 10th start (more than any of his rivals) but improving a little with racing, following up a first win at Nottingham with a respectable third of 11 at Hamilton last time; this is plenty tougher though.

Still a maiden after five starts and disappointed when third of seven at Catterick last time. Short enough in the betting that day and seemingly up against it back up in trip.

Verdict

Michael Dods does well with his sprinters and it might be worth taking a chance on RAPID RUSSO who showed much improved form at Catterick last time out. The handicapper might have let Byline in lightly despite Kevin Ryan's colt disappointing a little in the Gimcrack last time out. Hurstwood may do better for the fitting of first-time blinkers.
  1. Rapid Russo
  2. Byline
  3. Hurstwood
