Well suited to soft conditions and a winner two starts back at Ripon over 1m2f. Well below that level subsequently and while this extra distance should be within his scope, he'll need to be back to his best off new mark.

Winner at Newbury towards the end of last season but well beaten on each of his five subsequent starts. Gets a welcome drip in grade and with both wins coming on soft groun, further rain would be a positive.

Finished third behin Archi's Affaire in this last year off 3lb lower. Very good second over two miles at Ascot last time and drop in trip and grade are in his favour. However he would prefer drier conditions.

Won this last year off the same mark and lightly raced since. Ran well for a long way until race fitness seemed to cost him at Pontefract and he'll likely be better for the run in conditions that suit. Rates a leading contender.

Has fallen to 14lb below his last winning mark in June of last year but has really struggled the last twice. Would prefer a stiffer test of stamina nowadays and others preferred.

Infrequent winner but regularly placed and that costs him with the handicapper as he remains 6lb higher than last win. Consistent and capable of a place for in form yard, but others likely better handicapped.

Useful novice hurdler who battled back having led from the start to score at 22/1 in Ripon 1m4f novice last time. Makes handicap bow and is unexposed in this sphere. Suited by the conditions and capable of being involved.

Boasts a smart and progressive profile and gained a second win when battling on well in a good time over this trip at Ascot. Up 4lb but suited by the conditions and likely to progress again. Stable has won four of eight renewals.

Won a novice at Ayr as a juvenile and filled the runner-up spot on first four runs this year. Fourth latest in a handicap over this trip at Ascot and racing to a consistent level. Should be competitive again although others may be more progressive.

Makes handicap debut for in-form yard following narrow win when idling over this trip at Ffos Las (sent off 1/6F). Better suited by this ground and on a perfectly good mark on handicap debut. Capable of going close despite inexperience.

Progressive form in nine starts and has kicked on of late with a second over this C&D followed by a win and a close third at Chester. Best suited by cut in the ground and no reason he can't be involved again.

Won this in 2016 off 7lb higher but operating at a lesser level this year, resulting in the falling mark. Hard to fancy against some progressive types.

Sole win from four starts came on heavy and further rain would be a bonus. May have needed first run this year but still faces a stiff task on the bare form.

Verdict

A typically open renewal of a race that has gone to four-year-olds in the last three years. Paths Of Glory is the sole runner in that age group although he has made a belated start to his career and looks well weighted on handicap debut. Beyond The Clouds is another who makes a belated handicap debut on an attractive mark. Last year's winner Archi's Affaire comes here fresh following a light campaign and has every chance of following up. Of the three-year-olds SAPA INCA rates a filly on a sharp upward curve for a stable with an excellent race record. Dark Lochnagar is also proving progressive and has conditions to suit.
