Won the Gladness Stakes in 2018, and lightly raced since. Shaped as if retaining most of his ability when third at Tipperary in April, but tailed off at Leopardstown the following month, and asking a lot for him to win this off such a preparation.

Won twice in April, and bounced back to his very best when beating Donncha at Ripon (1m) last time. Respected on that for all he's looked vulnerable off this sort of mark in the past.

Best effort when scoring off an 8lb lower mark at Limerick in June, and has run respectably on both starts since, most recently when third of 15 to Lady Wannabe in a Listed race at Killarney last week. Bit more needed, but not dismissed.

Took advantage of falling mark when winning valuable Colm Quinn BMW Mile at Galway, and excused a lesser effort turned out quickly there next time. Handicapper has reacted, but he's still worthy of consideration.

Ran badly behind Saltonstall over 1m½f at Galway, but turned tables when a good fourth there later at the festival meeting, and again ran well when fourth to Madhmoon in the G3 Desmond Stakes at Leopardstown last time. One to consider once more.

Another to have taken in two handicaps at Galway, finishing third to Saltonstall and sixth behind Laughifuwant over 7f there on latest start. Not without a chance if repeating former effort from just 1lb higher.

Disappointed when fancied for Colm Quinn BMW Mile at Galway last time, but had won well here in May, and was an excellent second over C&D on his penultimate start. Has leading claims if latest effort is ignored, and may yet progress again.

Ran well at a big price when fifth in the Britannia Handicap at Royal Ascot, and stayed on well when sixth of 18 to Saltonstall in valuable event at Galway last time. Still appears to be going the right way, and respected having been dropped 1lb.

Best form on soft/heavy ground, winning at Naas in March and over C&D earlier this month. Some poor efforts in between those successes, however, and isn't the easiest to get right.

Won at Listowel (6½f) in June, and improved when second to Laughifuwant in a valuable 7f handicap at Galway last time. Claims on that, but untried at a mile, and not certain to appreciate the stiffer test.

In good form this summer, although his wins have come at claiming level for different yards. Excellent third of 18 to Waitingfortheday in a 1m handicap at Galway last time, and would have been closer with a better start. Not without appeal.

Took advantage of falling mark at Fairyhouse in May, and again ran well when a keeping-on fifth of 16 to Laughifuwant at Galway last time, although that run suggests he's back in the handicapper's grip.

Last two wins have come in conditions races at Sligo, coping with drop to 5½f when landing a minor gamble there last time. Claims on form, and started favourite for this race a year ago when unlucky in running (off same mark). One to bear in mind.

Running respectably on the whole this year, but doesn't really look like taking advantage of a sliding handicap mark, and while his yard is in form, others make more appeal in this field.

Beaten only ¾L by Solar Wave on heavy ground over C&D two starts back, but failed to build on that at Killarney last time, and looks opposable on the balance of this season's form.

In a good vein of form right now, and pulled clear of the others when beaten a nose by Scorched Earth at Roscommon last time. This is tougher, but a 3lb rise is very fair on balance, and chances if taking to first-time blinkers.

Enjoying a good season with three wins, the latest at Bellewstown early last month, but has risen to a career-high mark as a result, and has proven vulnerable at this sort of level in the past.

All three runs this season have come over shorter, and he's been doing his best work late on each occasion. Stays this far, and has given the impression he's ahead of his mark on his last two starts, so must be high on the shortlist.

Several good efforts in defeat this year, most recently when chasing home Saltonstall at Galway. Ran below form at Leopardstown last time, however, and needs to bounce back. Claims if doing so.

Won a 7f Thirsk novice in June for William Haggas, and joined current yard for 85,000 gns. At least as good as ever when second of 17 to Bopedro in a 7f handicap at Cork last time, and return to 1m should not inconvenience him.

Beaten favourite twice in maidens before winning one by 5L here last time, showing much-improved form. That form hasn't worked out yet, but he's unexposed, and open to further progress now handicapping.

Verdict

ICE COLD IN ALEX has caught the eye the last twice over shorter, and he looks both ahead of his mark, and likely to appreciate the return to a mile. He gets the nod over Dermot Weld's unexposed pair Jassaar and Kattani, with Numerian also respected for the younger brigade in a wide-open event.
