Form so far is a rather mixed bag (best run over C&D on debut; soft ground) with her last two starts seemingly disappointing (both on ground with cut). Makes her nursery debut (yard 0-9 in this sphere this year); mark looks a testing one.

C&D maiden winner on her second start on a better surface she makes her nursery debut with conditions underfoot very different. Failed to handle a rise in class last time at York; this may be more suitable although mark looks tough enough.

Out of his depth last time (Newbury Super Sprint) he's better judged on earlier efforts having won a Ripon novice on his second start (5f). Dropped 4lb since his creditable nursery debut at York (winner win again since); unproven on this surface.

Failed to impress in first-time blinkers (retained) on nursery debut at Chester (5f, good/firm) last time (was drawn wide in mitigation). Earlier form doesn't make him look that well handicapped though; has finished weakly, others appeal more.

Failed to justify strong support last time over 5f on better ground at Ripon back from a break (winner better positioned) having raced freely. Makes her nursery debut kept to 5f, ground could be a question mark, yard going well in this sphere.

Nursery debutante (now gelded, visor first-time); back to 5f after looking amiss over 6f at Ripon last time. Failed to impress in two starts since showing ability on his debut; may do better now handicapping, note a market move.

The sole nursery runner for the yard this season she ran well on her debut attracting support of what looked a stiff mark over 5f at Musselburgh. She's run her two best races over that C&D, dropped 2lb, encounters a soft surface for the first time.

Best run (modest form) when fifth of 10 over 6f here on his second start before failing miserably over 5f last time at Thirsk. Blinkers on (first-time) for nursery debut, from a top yard, may do better now handicapping off a lowly mark.

Took a modest step forward on her previous starts when third on nursery debut at Ripon over 5f. Ran to a similar level last time upped to 6f again at Ripon (ran in the disadvantaged group); yard 0-15 in this sphere this year, others appeal more.

Forecasts

Ice Skate (7/2), Ventura Flame (5/1), Mecca's Hot Steps (11/2), Auckland Lodge (11/2), Manolith (8/1), Street Life (9/1), Lara Silvia (9/1), Constitutional (14/1), Bezzas Lad (22/1)

Verdict

The heavy ground and the fact that over half the field are making their nursery debut make this a tricky event to solve. The majority of the quartet that have run in this sphere before don’t really appeal but MONOLITH despite not having run on a surface like this before (not many in this field have) will find this a lot easier than his last test having shaped well on his York nursery debut. C&D winner Auckland Lodge may well prove the main danger on her nursery debut with Mecca’s Hot Steps respected despite some disappointments; her yard are 3-7 in nurseries this year. First-time headgear for both Constitutional and Street Life on nursery debut may see some progress for that duo.
  1. Manolith
  2. Auckland Lodge
  3. Mecca's Hot Steps
