Has generally been running well this season on the flat and over hurdles. Cosy winner at Thirsk last month before third-place finishes at that venue, Catterick (1m4f) and Listed hurdle at Market Rasen. Warrants respect.

One win came over C&D last year and has been in moderate form this season. Limitations were exposed when 2L fourth in Newmarket handicap (1m4f) last time. Off the same mark but this is easier and is considered.

Has been well held in seven starts this season but showed some signs of a revival when fourth of 12 at Chester (1m5f, soft) on latest start. 3lb drop for that effort seems fair and holds place claims.

Solid second at Carlisle on his penultimate start but regressed on his latest start when 6L sixth in 1m4f Hamilton handicap. Can throw in a good effort but others have better cases.

Enforced lay-off last season and put up his best performance since returning with 2L fourth at Nottingham (1m2f). Has a bit to find on ratings but that performance can't be ignored and may be turning a corner.

Form has tailed off slightly since respectable start to the season and most recent 16L 10th in 1m4f Leicester handicap leaves a lot to be desired. This is tougher and has plenty to prove.

Has been kept busy this season and rarely runs a bad race. Backed up Thirsk win in June with consistent performances, including when 3L sixth on latest start over C&D. This is a step up and slightly more needed.

Forecasts

Matewan (9/4), Ingleby Hollow (9/4), Tor (4/1), Doctor Cross (9/2), Dew Pond (16/1), Albert Boy (16/1), Deinonychus (33/1)

Verdict

DOCTOR CROSS showed an aptitude for this track last season in his victory and has come out with credit despite being highly tried this season. That form makes him the one to beat off his current likeable mark. Ingleby Hollow is likely to pose the toughest challenge and has been thriving this season with each run, but faces a slightly difficult task off top weight, while cases can be made for Deinonychus who seems to be finding his feet again after a lengthy absence and the ultra-consistent Dew Pond, who needs a touch of improvement on the ratings.
  1. Doctor Cross
  2. Ingleby Hollow
  3. Dew Pond
