Ostensibly has a jumps pedigree and has won twice in that sphere (once in a bumper and once over hurdles). However, the gelding was short of pace when tried over 1m on the Flat at Goodwood earlier this month and has a lot to prove under top weight.

Won a bumper on debut at Stratford in May but made little progress since being tried on the Flat lately. He's open to improvement but this drop in trip after a poor run at Doncaster has to be a concern.

A well-bred colt who was confidently backed and ran accordingly on debut at Windsor; actually finished second but awarded the race after suffering interference. Showed a good attitude that day and will be hard to beat with another step forward here.

Been generally consistent this term but struggling to make the most of the opportunities presented to him. Ran reasonably well from this mark last time out and will probably be aided by the firmer surface. Place claims once more.

Gave trouble at the start on debut and had possibly boiled over by the time that race got underway. He was never a factor on that occasion and the run is best forgotten. He's had wind surgery since, however, and in all likelihood is best watched.

Made a solid impression in both previous starts; built on her promising debut second to win a novice median auction last time. Interesting she's kept at this level rather than a handicap but has to prove her stamina over this new trip.

Well held on debut but was more accomplished at Chelmsford earlier this month. Raced keenly but still held on to finish third in a race that has been franked since. Going the right way and merits consideration here.
A half-sister to 6f winners on artificial surfaces in Canada; out of a dirt winner who is a granddaughter of an American Grade 3 winner; makes limited appeal on racecourse debut even though her yard has turned a corner lately.

Well beaten in both starts up to press and plenty to prove now. Handicaps beckon after this.

Global Hunter (4/6), Ritchie Valens (11/4), Aladaala (3/1), Zephyrina (20/1), Gwennoline (33/1), Ruby Wine (33/1), Black Kalanisi (40/1), Hazm (50/1), Sandyman (50/1), Mini Milk (100/1), Binmar's Sexy Lexy (100/1)

Verdict

GLOBAL HUNTER, who holds a St Leger entry, won the race in the stewards room on debut but he still did enough to create a very favourable impression. The colt, who cost 300,000 gns, is easily the most appealing prospect on show in this company and is likely to be hard to beat.Ritchie Valens is consistent and strikes as the best alternative, while Aladaala and Hazm complete the shortlist in a race that lacks strength in depth.

  2. Ritchie Valens
  3. Aladaala
