Won twice on heavy ground at Cork last season and was twice second at Listed level on good to firm later on. Ran as if something amiss when last seen in September however and after 312 days off he may need the run; market a help.
Raised 4lb for winning a 1m½f Cork handicap latest he still ran well in third of 13 at the Curragh off this mark and over this trip. Wouldn't want to ground out any more but good suits fine and looks likely to make another bold bid.
Finished two places behind re-opposing Marshall Jennings off the same terms as today at the Curragh two starts back before good second of five at Killarney latest. Not ruled out but for obvious reasons Marshall Jennings is preferred.
Won five of his 10 starts since returning to Ireland last autumn and won a claimer at Bellewstown latest to prompt this yard to take a chance that there remains more to come. Held in last handicap (sixth) but 2lb lower here.
Beaten favourite in the €53k Irish Cambridgeshire last season ran pretty well at Limerick when last seen on the level but was never a factor in only hurdles race to date back in February and has a few questions to answer here.
Beat the now 110-rated Constantinople at Cork in April over 1m2f and again ran pretty well over that trip latest off this mark when third at Leopardstown. Not sure drop to 1m is a positive but not ruled out by any means.
Four from 73 career record far from inspiring and couple that with the facts that he is on a 15-race losing streak and well behind two of these latest he is easy to pass over.
Forecasts
Tony The Gent (5/2), Wentwood (5/2), Marshall Jennings (7/2), Yuften (7/1), Master Speaker (8/1), Sirjack Thomas (12/1), Allegio (12/1)
The safest bet for this tricky but classy handicap looks MARSHALL JENNNINGS who comes here on the back of a good third when ahead of two of today's rivals after winning at Cork the time before that. Wentwood is almost certainly capable of winning off his current mark but the nagging doubt that 1m will be on the sharp side remains and this track often brings speed more than stamina to the fore. Allegio and Sirjack Thomas have compelling 2018 form but both make their return here; market support for either would be a clear positive.
- Marshall Jennings
- Wentwood
- Allegio
