Has won over C&D four times before tonight and is on a very workable mark just now; latest effort was solid hint at a return to form and the gelding merits a betting check at least despite carrying top weight.

Had a busy spell since winning at Ripon in April but latest efforts suggest he's going slightly off the boil He does have a C&D win to his name and might still be dangerous to omit form the betting plans from what is a handy draw.

Out of form since returning to turf and always been rated a much better performer on the AW surfaces; just 1lb above his last turf win but a lot of water under the bridge since then.

Inconsistent but three of his last five starts have seen him make the frame; on the same mark as when second on the turf course at Lingfield latest and very well handicapped if able to repeat the effort. Worth a betting check.

Yet to recapture the heights of last season and finds himself back near a winning mark as a result. The wide draw does little to suggest he'll be able to capitalise this time though.

Back to form with a win at Musselburgh at the start of this month and the form has been franked; he's up in class this time, however, and the fact he's only 2lb higher says a bit about the worth of the form. Not previously noted for consistency.

Was a surprise winner at Windsor earlier in the campaign and has a chance in racing from the same mark. However, she's been inconsistent since and lacks experience of this particular course.

Previous course winner but is another whose best form has been posted on a synthetic surface. Won well on his penultimate start but lacked a change of gear over 5f at Chelmsford latest. Risky for win only and needs to be on the pace from the start.

Never a factor behind Powerallied last time and has work to do in his attempt to reverse the placings from a similarly poor draw this time too.

Three of his four career wins have been achieved with some cut in the ground but the gelding has rarely made much of an impact since his last victory (September 2018 from a mark of 62). His penultimate start was fair but he reverted to type latest.

Last two starts have been the closest the gelding has come to riding himself of the maiden tag on turf but never been a player when he's raced here and has it all to do from a wide berth in the stalls again. (Engaged at Doncaster on Friday.)

Still winless after 70 previous starts and not much hope for change as the mare races from so far out of the weights this time. Very hard to get enthusiastic about her causing a shock result.

16lb wrong at the weights and nothing in her recent (or indeed past) form to suggest she's capable of coping with a wide draw at Chester on such unfavourable terms.

Verdict

A number of these are inconsistent to say the least but it's not a statement that comes to mind when assessing the course credentials of POWERALLIED, who chases a fifth Chester win from what is a very attractive handicap mark. The stalls position is fine and all the pieces are in place for another bold bid. Arnold shaped as if back to form last time and can help for the issue along with Bowson Fred, who is also well berthed to keep tabs with the selection. He could be a good value option to make the frame. Zac Brown can also be thereabouts of he relishes the return to the scene of a previous successful jaunt. Bossipop is another to bear in mind.
