Drops down to 5f for the first time in his career after a trio of consistent efforts recently. Turn may be near and he is reliable which cannot be said for many in this field so definitely holds major claims.

Split Suwaan and Northern Society at Ayr (5f; good) last time. That was an improvement on previous efforts and he is now 1lb below his last winning mark but he must back up that most recent effort.

C&D winner in vastly different conditions three starts ago. Placed recent Haydock disappointment behind him with a fair third at Nottingham (5f; good to soft). Still 6lb above last winning mark and is inconsistent but still has place claims.

Up 3lb for recent Thirsk (5f; good to soft) victory. Not as well off with Debawtry who he reopposes with today, and that was his first taste of success since 2013. Jockey claims valuable 3lb which will aid his cause.

Posted a more encouraging effort last time when finishing third in-front of Northern Society at Ayr (5f; good). Isn't the most consistent of types so not sure to confirm that form though. Others have more appealing profiles.

Solid run when third behind Gamesome at Thirsk (5f; good to soft) recently. Better off with that rival now so every chance she could reverse the form and she is still unexposed after having just the seven starts.

Unable to land a blow when last of seven at Hamilton (6f; good to firm) but had been enjoying a good time of things prior to that. Has winning form on good to firm, and could spring back to form now that he is dropped back down to 5f.

Largely consistent last season but has only managed to beat one rival on each of her two starts this campaign. Mark has slid a fair way due to current slump in form. Shouldn't be completely dismissed.

2lb lower than for finishing fifth at Ayr (5f; good) last time. Had been in excellent form prior to that though with a win that was followed by a couple of respectable placed efforts. Needs to get back on track now.

Had looked to be getting better with each start this year and his solid runner-up effort at Chepstow (5f; good to soft) was particularly encouraging. Well below that form next time out though so has a bit to prove.

Desperately struggling for form at the moment. Showed next to nothing on seasonal reappearance at this track over 6f last month. Trainer/jockey combo out of form and he cannot be recommended.

Forecasts

Debawtry (15/8), Black Salt (4/1), Suwaan (7/1), Amazing Grazing (7/1), Afandem (10/1), Northern Society (12/1), Gamesome (14/1), David's Beauty (16/1), Beechwood Izzy (20/1), Highly Focussed (25/1), Dahik (50/1)

Verdict

There are plenty in this race who possess very inconsistent profiles, but that cannot be said for BLACK SALT who has posted a string of consistent efforts lately and on his first try at 5f, could notch his first win of 2019. Debawtry holds an attractive, unexposed profile and should be able to reverse the form with his Thirsk conqueror Gamesome who he is better off with this time round. The Ann Duffield-trained Highly Focussed is also worth a mention. His latest effort is best to forgive after he blew the start, and he had won two races off the bounce prior to that disappointment so should not be dismissed.
  1. Black Salt
  2. Debawtry
  3. Highly Focussed
