Edward Bryan Jones Memorial EBF Breeders' Series Fillies' Handicap

Off time: 18:55 | Winning time: 2m 12.17s

(4)

Ocala²²

Age: 4| Weight: 9-13| J: Rob Hornby| T: A M Balding| OR: 81| BF

5/1

Picked up a weak race at Chepstow and harshly went up 6lb for that. Understandably beaten last time and takes on better opposition this evening.

Form: 3/2-4613

(2)

Geetanjali^p²⁷

Age: 4| Weight: 9-10| J: Hayley Turner| T: M L W Bell| OR: 78| D

8/1

Triple winner who proved herself in this grade off this mark last time. All her wins have come on a sound surface so her chances will improve dramatically if the forecast for warm weather proves accurate.

Form: 321-513

(3)

Red Hot²⁷

Age: 3| Weight: 9-7| J: D Tudhope| T: R A Fahey| OR: 87

9/4

Newcastle winner as a juvenile who has been highly tried on both starts this term. Down in the weights and dropped in class, but still hard to argue she is well-handicapped based on her form to date.

Form: 41-58

(5)

Nearooz³⁸

Age: 3| Weight: 9-5| J: J Mitchell| T: R Varian| OR: 85| BF

13/8

Well-bred filly who landed two minor races before taking on some decent sorts on her handicap debut. Looks capable of building on that and will be expected to go close again off the same mark.

Form: 1-12

(7)

Romola²²

Age: 3| Weight: 9-1| J: C O'Donoghue| T: Sir Michael Stoute| OR: 81| BF

6/1

Pivotal filly representing a yard with a 10-39 record here and who have a line on Nearooz through Layaleena. Form of her juvenile success is strong and she steps up in trip having failed to justify support last time. Looks very interesting.

Form: 921-63

(6)

Bell Heather^p¹³

Age: 6| Weight: 8-12| J: Sean Davis⁽³⁾| T: P Morris| OR: 66

25/1

More exposed than her rivals with a 5-38 record. Placed here four times in eleven visits but has work to do in this grade off a testing mark.

Form: 876123

Non-Runners

(1)

Miss Mumtaz³²

Weight: 9-6| Age: 4

T: Ian Williams J: F Norton

Forecasts

Nearooz (13/8), Red Hot (9/4), Ocala (5/1), Romola (6/1), Geetanjali (8/1), Miss Mumtaz (14/1), Bell Heather (25/1)

Ocala and Geetanjali will be hoping conditions dry out but both are conceding weight to a couple of well-bred progressive fillies in Nearooz and ROMOLA. The former will be having just her fourth race and does not need to improve much from her handicap bow. However, the selection may be more streetwise and looked ready for this trip when third in a hot race at Chelmsford last time. Red Hot will find this easier but she still appears to have a stiff task at the weights.
