C&D winner last time out for a yard that is blooming currently making a mockery of his mark (heavily eased in the closing stages). Faces a justified 9lb rise which sees him having to concede weight to some talented types; still has to be shortlisted.

Faced with a quick return to action having run now sort of race at Royal Ascot in a first-time hood; appeared to resent being held up (pulled hard). Better form appears to have come on the AW (yet to be placed on turf); doubts remain.

Missed an intended Royal Ascot start last week having shaped encouragingly at Epsom (1m,good) after four months off (ran in Dubai over the winter). Won three good handicaps last year (all at this trip); has to be respected give those performances.

Not the most reliable with a losing sequence that now stretches back to the middle of last year when he was in much more consistent form. Has managed to put two good efforts together of late; still a question of how long that remains the case.

An AW virgin he only has one win to his name (a French maiden over 1m) before running two sound races for this yard in decent handicaps since being transferred to them. Type that the yard do well with; still looks on a feasible mark, in the mix.

Attitude a worry with this one as he often looks rather quirky although he did turn in one of his better efforts last time over C&D (good scenario for him). Headgear once again left off; he remains well above his last winning mark; appeal limited.

Enjoying a productive season scoring for the second time over C&D recently (Bedouin's Story second); back on the AW for the first time for ages. Suited by the way the race developed (held up/strong pace); likely to get the same scenario here.

Low mileage for one of his age; comes here off the back of a disappointing turf effort at Newbury (1m2f, soft); may have needed the run. Took a Wolverhampton handicap on his debut in that sphere so not totally out of this, does need others to falter.

Consistent this year but yet to win a race this season finishing a good second at Chelmsford last time over 1m; seen to good advantage (had run of the race). Has AW experience but none on Tapeta; respected but others make more appeal.

Twice a C&D winner with the last of those victories coming in January off a 4lb lower mark; consistent since then until running poorly on turf last time (off a much lower mark). Usually likes to dominate; stiffer task than normal, others preferred.

Course specialist with six wins to his name here (four over C&D); 3lb higher than his last win he comes into this better grade off a rare below-par effort over 7f here. Not seen to best effect on that occasion (raced feely); work to do at this level.

C&D winner late last year when making his AW debut in a lesser grade than this cashing in on a much reduced and falling mark. In good form on his two starts this year, the best over 7f here when running into an improver; meets plenty more here.

Forecasts

Bowerman (5/2), Crownthorpe (11/2), Seniority (6/1), Bedouin's Story (13/2), Qaroun (7/1), Baltic Baron (10/1), Military Law (11/1), Ventura Knight (20/1), Glengarry (33/1), Rey Loopy (33/1), Glendevon (40/1), Trevithick (50/1)

Verdict

A cracking handicap that contains five previous C&D winners including the standing dish here Rey Loopy although he may find this company a little warm. Roger Varian fields a strong team this afternoon and it’s hard to ignore his BOWERMAN despite the hike in the weights he has to contend with following his hard-held victory over C&D last time; it’s hard to know how much he had in hand. Seniority missed out on the Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot but his Epsom reappearance form puts him in with a chance along with Crownthorpe, that one looking more reliable that than Bedouin's Story who he defeated over C&D last time. Baltic Baron and Military Law two others worthy of noting in a hot heat.
