Newcomer (27,000 guineas yearling) by Helmet; dam 6f two-year-old winner, half-sister to fairly useful 6f 2yo winner Hot Coffee. Yard yet to have juvenile winner this season (0-11), best watched unless the market speaks in his favour.

From a stable that is flying with their juveniles this year; this one switches to the AW for the first time having failed to live up to his debut form in testing conditions last time. A beaten odds-on favourite at Carlisle he can bounce back here.

Just edged out at Beverley on his debut (7f, good) by a more experienced rival who he had gone head-to-head with in the closing stages. That experience will have done him good (more expected this time); well up to winning an event like this.

Debutante (already gelded) from a yard that last had a juvenile winner in 2012. Dam maiden (stayed 1m6f) with plenty of staying relations on the distaff side of the pedigree; looks to be the type to need time and distance, others more persuasive.

Yard run two in this with this one having had experience (which was much needed) at Beverley; finished well behind but looks the sort to do better in time. Now switches to the AW, jockey bookings suggest he's still the second string.

Debutante by Rock Of Gibraltar from a yard that are no strangers to success with juveniles (10-61 with newcomers this year). Dam 5f two-year-old winner; no surprise if he's ready to score on debut, looks to be the stable selected.

Newcomer (yard 0-8 with debutants this year), €22,000 yearling by Helmet out of a Pursuit Of Love mare. Half-sister to three winners, all successful on the AW; of interest and worth a market check given her pedigree.

The most experienced in the field she showed something like her debut form back on the AW (7f) at Chelmsford last time (also ran well there on debut over 5f). Overall though her form is modest; needs to take another step forward here.

Forecasts

Gallaside (5/4), Northern Hope (11/8), You're My Rock (8/1), The Lazy Monkey (17/2), Reclaim Victory (20/1), Trickydickysimpson (20/1), Full Strength (40/1), Thomas Hawk (125/1)

Verdict

There was an awful lot to like about the debut run of NORTHERN HOPE and with that run expected to bring him on again it would be no surprise to see him strike on his second career start; he’s a half-brother to an AW winner. Archie Watson’s World Title beat the selection last time out so he will have a good idea where he stands with his runner Gallaside who steps onto the AW bidding to bounce back from run in testing conditions last time, this is likely to suit better. You’re My Rock looks the best of the newcomers although Reclaim Victory is worth keeping an eye on with this surface expected to suit.
