Complicated character but won this race last year in good fashion when gaining a second course success. Has to concede weight to all this time around and while he showed nothing on reappearance, the step back up in trip will suit.

Has won three of his six starts and only caught late at Newmarket on return. Related to some useful stayers so this sort of trip could suit and an interesting runner here for connections who have enjoyed a fine week. Wears first-time hood.

Grade 1 winner over fences and could be competitive in a race of this nature with stamina in abundance. Fascinating contender here if taking to this discipline.

Classy stayer who won over 2m here at the Shergar Cup meeting. Followed that with an excellent third in the Cesarewitch and probably found the ground too soft at Chester last time. Has given the impression he may stay this sort of trip.

A winner at 2m2f at Newbury last time out on the Flat with that form franked by the runner-up and stays this sort of trip over hurdles. This is effectively a big step up in class though and may struggle.

Hasn't won since a hurdles success at Fontwell in 2017 and well beaten in the Ascot Stakes (2m4f) when last seen. Has plenty of questions to answer on reappearance here having shown little in three starts for this yard.

Has run a pair of big races in the Melbourne Cup, placed twice. Generally struggled last season bar a fair effort in a below par Group 2 at Doncaster. A player if at his best but does have stamina to prove at this trip.

Remarkable effort to win on return from 766 days off the track at Goodwood last week. The bounce factor is a big concern here though and needs a career best by some way to mix it at this level.

Had some fair form on the Flat in France back in 2015 and turned into a useful hurdler but unseated his rider leaving the stalls at Newbury on return to this sphere before finishing a tailed off last of four here last month; hard to fancy.

Talented over hurdles on his day and won a Grade 2 at Sandown last time out in that sphere. Very interesting runner on first Flat start for a yard that do well with these types.

Useful stayer who has won four of his last 10 starts. Drying ground ought to suit here but has to prove stamina for this trip. Yard have won two of the last four renewals.

Verdict

A fascinating contest with a couple of National Hunt stars making their Flat debuts. Pallasator may have more on his hands this time off top weight in what looks a stronger renewal than the race he took last year and he's now a 10-year-old. With that in mind, it may be worth taking him on with Grade 1 winning chaser BLACK CORTON who rates as a fascinating runner for Paul Nicholls. Younevercall is another to be interested in making a Flat debut while both Corelli and Cleonte have both shaped as if this step up in trip could suit.
