Effective anywhere from 5f through to a mile with testing ground ideal. Changed hands for 7,500gns in January and 6lb below last winning mark but struggled at Haydock on stable debut. Best watched for now.

Won this last year off 1lb lower and on much quicker ground. Racing to a good and consistent standard in four strong races so far this year. Yet to race on ground this soft and does prefer faster conditions.

Sole turf win for John Gosden came on quicker ground but he has handled soft previously. Purchased for 35,000 gns in February and has been well below his best in three starts since. Down in grade and dropping in the weights but hard to fancy.

Hasn't won since winning here in June 2015; knocked at the door in competitive Doncaster handicaps for former trainer Robert Eddery (2016 Doncaster Spring Mile, 2017 Lincoln). Handles soft and some promise on March stable debut. Can be involved.

Three-time course winner and his last two came over this C&D, including off this mark on season reappearance. Well below that in three runs since and yet to prove his effectiveness for ground this soft.

Without a win since April 2017 which came off this mark. Not disgraced in the Spring Mile in March and first run since. Has shown a preference for the AW and quicker ground on turf and others preferred on that basis.

Now 7lb below his last winning mark from December 2017. Handles some cut in the ground but wouldn't want the going description to start with soft. Needs to bounce back from a poor York effort.

Lightly raced and made breakthrough at Lingfield in March and followed up with career best second over this C&D. Below that at Musselburgh off this revised mark and with the ground also a query, he's probably high enough in the weights on balance.

Relished the return to Southwell's fibresand with three wins over the winter but without a win elsewhere or on the turf from 16 tries. Not disgraced last twice and down another 2lb but this is tougher still.

Proving consistent in his short career to date and a fair third against his own age last time. Just lacked acceleration late on and may prefer a stiffer test in time. Worth a try though in these conditions which may play to his strengths.

Forecasts

Dawaaleeb (3/1), Weld Al Emarat (7/2), On The Line (7/1), Reggae Runner (7/1), Calvados Spirit (8/1), Donncha (9/1), Swift Emperor (10/1), Give It Some Teddy (11/1), Tricorn (14/1), Gymkhana (40/1)

Verdict

DONNCHA is hard to win with but he's been given a real chance now by the handicapper and this extra furlong will suit following a good stable debut in March. Reggae Runner has only scored on the AW so far but he looks the type who could improve for what will prove a stiffer test of stamina in these conditions. The ground is a concern for last year's winner Dawaaleeb but he's been keeping good company and likely to run his usual consistent race.
  1. Donncha

  3. Dawaaleeb
