Improving since introduced to handicapping; built upon an excellent second to Pour Me A Drink at Haydock (1m, soft) when showing a determined attitude to score by a neck at Nottingham (1m+, good); back in trip, but tough to beat under a 6lb penalty.
200,000gns yearling; didn't show much on the AW as a juvenile following a reasonably promising debut fifth at Ffos Las (7½f, good to soft); 2lb lower than on handicap debut at Nottingham (1m+); significant improvement required.
Former Irish racer (Joseph O'Brien); has already raced on 20 previous occasions despite being only halfway through his 3yo career; handicap mark is now easing after struggling to get positively involved on good to firm ground at Lingfield and York.
12/1 winner of a 7f Class 6 Kempton novice auction last October; well beaten on both starts in 3yo handicaps at Doncaster (1m2f) and Yarmouth (1m); has fallen 4lb in the weights; back in trip with a visor now applied.
Made all and kept on strongly when winning at Pontefract (5f, good to soft) on his second start early last season; poor since, including in 6f 3yo handicaps back at Pontefract and Thirsk; his pedigree suggests that a step up in trip is worth trying.
Six-race maiden (raced three times for R.Hannon as a 2yo); after contesting some reasonably competitive handicaps, displayed more promise when finishing fifth of nine to Rambaldi in a 1m+ Nottingham Classified Stakes 24 days ago; cheekpieces go on.
Forecasts
Ouzo (4/9), God Has Given (9/2), Spencers Son (10/1), Facethepuckout (12/1), Brawny (20/1), Carey Street (33/1)
OUZO carries a 6lb penalty for last week's hard fought Nottingham win, but that form looks particularly strong in the context of this race and if coping with a slight drop back in trip rates as the horse to beat against some largely out of form rivals. Only God Has Given appears to be headed in a similarly positive direction at present, and it's entirely possible that the newly applied cheekpieces can elicit additional improvement. He gets the vote for the forecast.
