Five-race maiden, posted best efforts over sprint trips so far. Cheekpieces on first time down slightly in class this afternoon but improvement demanded.

Best of efforts to date came with some give underfoot. Well held on reappearance at Redcar (6f, good to firm; 40-1) and seemingly with plenty to find despite this class-drop.

Didn't appear to see a mile out on first start for this handler, fair effort since at Carlisle (7f, good to firm; 33-1) but no better than midfield at any stage and left with something to work on.

Pleasing first outing for trainer Ruth Carr on reappearance at Carlisle (7f, good; 12-1) when never-nearer fourth at the line. Should have scope to build on that and be competitive now.

Hasn't appeared to be without quirks in five starts to this point, all over 5f/6f. Goes up in distance for this event but doesn't boast strong enough form to merit support.

War Command filly, seemingly has one or two of her own ideas at times. Every chance on handicap debut at Thirsk (7f, good to firm; 11-1) last time before hanging under pressure and settling for fourth. Same mark, considered.

Didn't show much last year but booking for Oisin Murphy for last month's handicap debut at Newmarket (7f, good to firm; 8-1) suggested better things are anticipated this season. Took a while to get going, doing best work late on. More to come.

Much-improved when winning 10-runner handicap at Brighton (7f, good to firm; 11-4) 13 days ago, responding well for pressure. Goes up 6lb here, though not one to underestimate.

First-time blinkers did the trick on final juvenile start when landing C&D nursery on good to soft. Held in couple of runs this term, latest when upped to a mile, may want to see some rain but not ruled out back here.

6f winner at Chepstow last month, his only success in 11 attempts. Faded markedly in final 2f back there over this trip 18 days ago and that rates a concern now.

Much-improved on first run for this yard when good second of 14 in handicap at Wetherby (1m, good to firm; 12-1) 11 days ago and should be a big player here if replicating that showing from 1lb higher.

Took a step forward form-wise at Yarmouth last time, not beaten far over 6f, and the way she finished off her race there suggests this longer trip might be a positive. Market vibes worth heeding.

Verdict

A slow start left OLD RED EYES with plenty to do last month at Newmarket on handicap bow but he made some pleasing late progress and, with fitness boosted and Oisin Murphy staying faithful, it won't be a big shock if he improves enough to be very competitive now. The Big House impressed on stable bow at Wetherby and is considered alongside Ifton, also on second run for a new trainer, while the likes of Jem Scuttle, Elikapeka and penalised Brighton winner Your Mothers' Eyes are all interesting.
