No win since summer of 2017 (1m2f) but plenty of solid efforts last year. Disappointed backers on return at Haydock in April but more like it last month at Newmarket over this trip. Eased 2lb and should be competitive.

Just one win from 18 attempts on the Flat (came on AW) in Britain (won in St Moritz this year), has trio of hurdles win, including back in the autumn, and ran well at Ludlow last month in that sphere. Flat rating falling, worth a betting check.

Mostly campaigned over timber recently, though April's effort on the level at Brighton (1m2f, good to firm; 9-2) wouldn't require much improving on from same mark with 2f extra to suit.

Doesn't win often (2-22) but showed last month at Lingfield (1m3½f, good to firm; 10-1) that he's approaching a winnable mark now. One to note under red-hot Tom Marquand (10-47).

Nice-race maiden on the Flat, but has shaped with some promise over this C&D previously and comes back here after rock-solid Newmarket fourth (1m4f, good; 33-1), when only beaten 2L. Same mark, interesting contender on that run.

Largely consistent in handicaps despite now being a 19-race maiden. Just found one too strong last month at Newbury over this trip and rather unfortunate to be back up 2lb in ratings without the win.

Finished six-race 2018 campaign by recording a third win, at Nottingham over 1m2f (good; 2-1f) and was also runner up at this track in September. Likely needed Sandown reappearance and should do much better (just 1lb above last win-mark).

Cost connections 125,000gns in October 2017 (from Jeremy Noseda); unfortunately missed the whole of the calendar year in 2018; 0-7 in 2019, but tackling this sort of trip for the first time. Watch betting.

Fairly consistent on the Flat at this sort of level, though failed to fire in one previous visit here. Decent effort over timber in winter campaign, though no win. Record fresh suggests may need this.

Awarded race by the stewards when beaten a short-head at Newbury in October (1m4f, good to soft); his only Flat success to date. Pleasing form over hurdles afterwards but flopped on return to this sphere at Doncaster (1m4f, good; 7-2f) last month.

Repeatedly ran well on AW circuit after joining his trainer without winning, and went close at Doncaster (1m4f, good; 12-1) in March. Missed the break and never competitive at Brighton latest, Oisin Murphy a positive booking now.

Back-to-back wins at Chelmsford on the AW over 1m2fin early spring (held there since) but was poor in two 2017 turf starts, so has something to prove back on this surface. Silvestre De Sousa a positive booking.

Verdict

Given the rain that fell during racing on Friday, a check of conditions is advised. The consistent Sufi may not relish a soft surface while Lyrica's Lion could offset a poor draw by going well in such a scenario. GIVE HIM TIME responded well to cheekpieces at Newbury last time and has placed here on soft ground from his four previous starts in this sphere, he's given a tentative nod to build on that recent showing. Makambe rather blew his chance at the start last time but should bounce back with Oisin Murphy taking over while Me Too Nagasaki is another with form on testing going and is worth a betting check now tackling this sort of trip for the first time.
