Top class sprinter at his best, but comes into this after a below par effort at York, one that needs forgiving if he's to hold best chance here. Is a C&D winner and acts on soft, so looks one of the main players at the weights if bouncing back.
Was far from disgraced in top sprinting contests last year and can't have the ground soft enough, so any further rain very much in his favour. Below par at Leicester latest but ground there possibly too quick, so that's best forgiven. Chances here.
Ran well to be beaten just over 2l in last year's Commonwealth Cup at Ascot but hasn't reproduced that run in four subsequent starts and is beginning to look disappointing. Cheekpieces tried now, but plenty to find all the same.
Winner over 7f on soft ground at Doncaster last year, so no issue with conditions, but even his very best form leaves him some way short at the weights today and he needs a lot more to get involved.
Mildly progressive last year but it was all at a modest handicap level and he's got little chance against the big players today, even if he is fit and ready to go on seasonal debut.
High class sprinter than took the Group 1 Champions Sprint at Ascot last October, a top-drawer performance and one that showed he acts well on soft ground too. Repeat of that makes him the one to beat if fit after a short break.
Forecasts
Sands Of Mali (1/1), Donjuan Triumphant (5/2), Brando (7/2), Lomu (33/1), Fighting Irish (50/1), Lahore (50/1)
A quality sprint for the track, with Sands Of Mali, Donjuan Triumphant and Brando set to do battle for the prize. Sands Of Mali is the one to beat on form but he might not be fully wound up for this, with possible bigger targets this summer in mind, and with the ground having plenty of cut in it, maybe Donjuan Triumphant, who has the advantage of a recent run under his belt, can come out on top. Brando is no pushover either but he ought to have run better at York last time, and now needs to leave that behind.
- Donjuan Triumphant
- Sands Of Mali
- Brando
