Hamilton maiden scorer last summer (6f, good to firm) but has found the handicapper in control since diverting to this sphere. Trip/ground fine but may remain vulnerable for win purposes.
Dawn Approach filly won one from six as a juvenile but was well tried at the end of season, struggling twice but running well on her penultimate start when fourth at Doncaster. May have needed recent comeback, eased in grade here and noted.
Lightly-raced Invincible Spirit gelding, made winning reappearance at Leicester (7f, good to firm; 3-1f) last month in this grade. Carries penalty but remains open to further progress this season and respected once more.
Gelded son of Assertive proved progressive in first four starts in novice company last year but struggled to make an impression in a couple of decent handicaps. Possibly needed reappearance at Wetherby (soft ground) and may do better.
Won a 7f Lingfield nursery in November (AW) but not gone on from that. Inauspicious turf return at Beverley (7½f, good to firm; 8-1) when tailed off last of five having raced prominently and weakened a long way from the winning post.
Seven-race maiden, perhaps didn't see mile out at Thirsk recently (may have needed run) on first start after leaving Richard Hannon. Unfancied 33-1 shot there, will need to see some positives before supporting.
Just the four starts last year for Henry Candy, running well enough at times without threatening to win. Returns to action for new trainer and enters this sphere at a modest level, watch betting for confidence.
Dream Ahead filly, showed up well first two starts on the AW at Newcastle (both over 7f) though has yet to suggest a win is imminent in either turf run. Watched for the moment.
Bated Breath filly is a six-race maiden but last month's reappearance at Ripon (6f, good; 18-1) suggested there will be races in her. Didn't really build on that since over this trip at Musselburgh but remains early days.
Daughter of Iffraaj who was a cheap purchase at just 5,000 gns. Sent off big prices in three minor contest last season over 7f-1m and no threat. Returns for handicap bow, could have more to offer and meets a modest bunch now.
Forecasts
Ramesses (6/5), Howzer Black (5/1), Arletta Star (7/1), Kolossus (8/1), Evie Speed (9/1), Ifton (12/1), Port of Leith (28/1), Dream Chick (28/1), Dancing Speed (33/1), She's Awake (40/1)
Having improved on reappearance at Leicester to justify market support this looks a suitable opportunity for RAMESSES to follow up, with Richard Fahey opting to offset much of the 6lb penalty by jocking up Sean Davis now. There should be more to come and this isn't all that strong. The consistent Howzer Black should again give his running while the possible improvers are headed by Ifton and She's Awake.
- Ramesses
- Howzer Black
- Ifton
