Son of Elzaam, a dual winner as a two-year-old and not disgraced in Listed company on his last race of the campaign at York. Well below that level on handicap debut at Doncaster and more required up in trip.

Two wins as a juvenile and followed September's Catterick win with a narrow defeat at Epsom off 1lb higher. Gelded and returned with a decent effort at Ripon. Up to winning off this mark and suited by 7f although stable could be in better form.

Twice a novice stakes winner last season and yet to taste success in handicap company although highly tried. Bit to find with Artistic Rifles on his final run last season and reappearance was below par. Drops in grade but others preferred.

Consistent performer in five starts as a juvenile and signed off with wins in a novice at Ripon and a valuable sales race at Newmarket. Disappointed at Pontefract on handicap debut last month and will need to find plenty more.

Dawn Approach filly won one from six as a juvenile but was well tried at the end of season, struggling twice but running well on her penultimate start when fourth at Doncaster over 6.5f. Stable in good form so interesting to see if there is support.

Son of War Command proved a bit inconsistent in six starts as a juvenile but did finish with a breakthrough Catterick win which was a career-best. Looks a suitable contest for his reappearance and stable in decent form.

Gelded son of Assertive proved progressive in first four starts in novice company last year but struggled to make an impression in a couple of decent handicaps. Bit to prove on his return and quicker ground may be a key.

Bated Breath colt proved better suited by sprint distances as a juvenile with nursery wins at Carlisle and Nottingham. Didn't quite convince over this distance on his final start but it was a strong Newmarket contest. Chance if staying better.

Unbeaten in two novice contests as juvenile. Disappointed at Yarmouth on reappearance and handicap debut but suited by this step back up in distance and should get further in time. Concern that blinkers are now added and this is tougher.

Landed two Wolverhampton handicaps as a juvenile but has struggled to make an impression in two turf starts this time around. Much more needed now and profile suggests he may be better on the AW.

Mayson colt who is a half-brother to several winners. Won on only AW start on fibresand as a juvenile but yet to impress on turf and tailed off on reappearance. Hard to fancy.

Gelded son of Kingman remains a maiden after four starts but was gambled into favouritism on season and handicap debut. Disappointed in a first-time hood (retained) and more required. Interesting if market support comes again.

Forecasts

Artistic Rifles (9/4), Fastman (4/1), Two Blondes (7/1), Evie Speed (17/2), Mr Diamond (12/1), Lorton (14/1), Kolossus (14/1), Kuwait Station (14/1), Airwaves (16/1), Jem Scuttle (20/1), High Contrast (28/1), Gremoboy (33/1)

Verdict

A tricky handicap where much depends on how many of these have wintered and the market will be an interesting guide. Two Blondes is on a decent mark and should be fitter for a good return. Evie Speed represents a trainer going well and had some good juvenile form but preference is for another yard in strong form with ARTISTIC RIFLES, who finished last season on a high and looked the type to improve at three.
  1. Artistic Rifles
  2. Evie Speed
  3. Two Blondes
