Found an ease in grade helping when recording his maiden win as a juvenile (made all) over 7f at Musselburgh. Both subsequent runs (including handicap debut disappointing); in good hands, no surprise to see him do better as a three-year-old.
Already a winner this year on his final run for his old yard on the AW at Wolverhampton after a promising debut his debut for this barn left a few doubts (travelled well, weak finish). Handicap debut (could do better) over a trip that suits.
AW maiden winner over this trip who ran loose before the start of his handicap/turf debut (may well have affected his finishing effort) failing to improve. Stable going well so not written off but does needs to settle better to be fully effective.
Shaped with definite promise in three runs so far particularly last time at Newmarket (7f); looks the sort for handicaps although he is up 3f for his debut in this sphere. Gives the impression he'll stay and well worth including in calculations.
Scored a quick-fire hat-trick in nurseries last year at up to 1m (all on turf) rising 12lb in the handicap; that makes him look exposed here. Upped to 1m2f (second try at trip) for his return he looked awkward under pressure; faces a stiff task.
Forecasts
Sky Defender (11/8), Entertaining (7/2), Boutonniere (9/2), Ragnar (5/1), Greeley (11/2)
Tight three-year-old handicap with ENTERTAINING looking the one who can take a significant step forward now that he tackles handicaps although he does have to prove himself over this trip having only run at up to 7f so far. Boutonniere ought to have done better at Beverley last time especially as the yard were (and still are) in good form at the time; he can’t be written off easily though. Sky Defender needs to find his form again this year having ended last season on a downbeat note, given his stable that isn’t impossible though and he may get a soft lead. Ragnar is the second runner to be making his handicap debut (this sphere will suit); needs to finish off his races better.
- Entertaining
- Boutonniere
- Sky Defender
