Winner of this in 2017 off this same mark making a winning return to action; scored three time last year (in three different countries) all over 6f. Appeared to have rather lost his way when racing in Dubai early this year; needs to bounce back.

Smart handicapper with plenty of sprinting experience/winning form under his belt over this trip. Seasonal debut came on a rare outing over 5f; shaped as if he would be much better for the outing; back on his last winning mark and up to 6f.

33/1
Three-time C&D winner who definitely needed the run on his seasonal return (0-4 off 150+ day breaks); ran over 7f and given a stiff task. This looks far more suitable although he's never won before June before; 8lb above last winning mark.

One of two that the stable run in this (makes seasonal debut; all wins have come off recent starts). Smart handicapper whose all three wins have come at this trip but likely to need this returning from a long absence.

Ex-French colt who makes his stable/GB debut having shown some useful form in his native land over sprint trips. Cost €125,000 having won twice last year (both times in blinkers; visored now); hard to know what to expect; market useful.

Change of tactics, a break and no headgear provided the catalysts for his Beverley win (5f, good) to end a lengthy losing run. Some leniency from the handicapper also helped (up 6lb here); still has the scope to run well back at 6f (is a C&D winner).

Normandy Barriere11

25/1
Useful handicapper who failed to win last year (runner up four times) running some very sound races all the same off marks that kept on going up. Will be better with a recent run under his belt (looked rusty); first run at this track.

9/1
Likely pace angle in the race (two-time C&D winner) who scored a handicap hat-trick between May-June last year. Picked up where she left off when making her seasonal return (forced pace; did too much too soon); better expected this time.

Winner of this race in 2015 (4lb higher mark) since finished in these positions 12-8-9 in the contest. Seven-time C&D winner overall his two runs so far this year will have set him up for this contest; runner-up to a well handicapped rival last time.

Twice a winner over 5f here last season (one on his seasonal return); yet to score at 6f (0-5) but has been placed on three occasions at the trip. Showed some strong form against his own age group last year; interesting sort for sprints this year.

Won first-time out for the second season running when taking a Windsor 6f contest off a 3lb lower mark (looked better than ever). Slight worry is that he didn't win again last year and now features off a career-high mark.

C&D winner last year on his second start (1-5 here); now makes his stable/seasonal debut having been with John Quinn. Ran respectably without winning after his success last year; could well need this (0-11 when off more than a month).

One of three for the trainer in this with his two turf wins having both come on heavy ground in September. Yet to run this year and chances are that this ground will be too lively for him; best watched on his seasonal return.

Took two sprint handicaps last summer looking an improving type; failed to really get competitive this year but has shown that he retains ability. Not had an ideal passage or track position in either of his runs; of some interest here.

Won this last year off a 1lb lower mark making it three from four on his seasonal debuts. 1-4 here overall (he also goes well at Pontefract); clearly been kept fresh for this again; given his record first-time out has to be respected.

Verdict

A race named after one of the runners Pipers Note who has eight course wins to his name (seven over C&D) winning this in 2015 (not run so well in it past three years); he has to be respected especially after his last run. The draw is another imponderable here and they may well split into two groups Sandra’s Secret will provide pace on the far side with Gin In The Inn and Ice Age the two most dangerous customers drawn in the low numbers. Roundhay Park and Normandy Barriere give Nigel Tinkler a good shot at landing the prize but the rejuvenated TERUNTUM STAR is given the overall vote after his demolition job at Beverley last time he should appreciate the 6f.
