Transformed from her debut run showing a much more professional attitude than on her debut (far too green then) managing to dominate from a wide draw. Should be able to step forward again under her penalty; has another awkward draw to cope with.

Positive in the market on both her starts she showed smart/improved form the second time out making all over 7f at Kempton (made good use of her experience). Should get further than this trip; carries a penalty here but one of the leading players.

Stable yet to get going this year (first winner the other day); clearly an interesting sort though who left her debut 5f form behind when scoring over 7f on the AW (well backed). Much sharper second time out she will need further in time; smart sort.

Two backend runs on the AW for John Gosden last year hinted that she had ability although she had yet to blossom fully. Hood worn last time is now dispensed with on debut for new yard; back in trip, suspect there will be more to come in time.

Looks the third string for the trainer with this proving to be a recovery mission for this daughter of Bated Breath as she failed to progress from a debut that showed ability. This will be her qualifying run though; handicaps an option after this out

Plenty of stamina in the pedigree and it's going to be trips in excess of 7f that see this one in a better light eventually. Hinted at some ability on her debut (ran green) making some late headway; will do better with time/distance.

Newcomer by Acclamation (cost 33,000 guineas as a yearling); out of a maiden dam (stayed 1m). Trainer 0-37 with three-year-old debutants so a watching brief is very much advised on this occasion.

Could well be the trainer's second string (he runs three) having shaped well first-time up at Kempton over this trip (penny dropped late on, finished well). Run highlighted that she needs further than this trip but does have the ability to win races.

Debut run could hardly have gone worse as she unseated her rider at the start having gone off a 66-1 chance here over 6f last year. Faces a very stiff task here against four previous winners and some promising types.

Shown something in two starts the first for Charlie Appleby under a sympathetic ride at Newmarket (7f); improving slightly on her first run for this yard over 1m on the AW. Still only modest form but knows her job; one for handicaps after this start.

Plenty to like about both her runs so far; unfancied on debut but running to a fair level over 7f (good quality race), then improving on that last time over 1m (going down narrowly to race favourite). Back to 7f, leading chance on form.

Verdict

A race that has gone the way of the market leader in four of the last five year and looks this time around as though it will be a competitive heat. Four previous winners attempt to carry their penalties (one has already failed to do so) but it’s NOOSHIN who has yet to score who makes the most appeal having run second last time out and shown plenty on her debut. Of the penalised quartet Marco Botti’s Sonja Henie makes the most appeal with Vivionn looking to have plenty of long-term appeal from the Sir Michael Stoute yard that are yet to get going this year. More can be expected of Astrologer this year while Moneta (first-time tongue tie) will be interesting for handicaps in the near future.
